way OT need 2008 cummins,6.7 common rail engine

My nephew needs a 2008 dodge cummins 6.7 engine; he's in the Marines and his GF at home hand grenaded the engine in his 2008 2500 Dodge. Anyone have one or a source? local yards want $5k and this jarhead needs help.....he'll be home in 2 weeks.

Just about any 6.7 is not going to be cheap. The $5K figure is the low side of what they are selling for.

I would bet that his old motor could be fixed for less than replacing the entire motor. Those motors are not know for damaging the basic block. With all of the computers on those motors they will usually has some other issues not major block/crank failures.

He also needs to remember that a woman will get a much higher estimate on repairs than he will.

These motors in the newer vehicles is not one he is going to change in his yard either. I think that this motor change requires a cab lift. So the switch will cost him some bucks. I would make darn sure it is truly blown up before I would think of changing it out. Also all of the sensors will need to come off of the old motor and go back on the new motor for the computers to be happy.

Just a tease at him!!! Only a true JAR HEAD leaves his diesel pickup in the hands of a "GIRL FRIEND" LOL

It's blown BAD! rod thru block,so hot paint pealed, heads has multiple cracks, other rods blued.Like I said BLOWN. one yrd has 8 on the shelf,$7500 with rebuildable core. Wimmin drivers!

Welcome to diesel, if you wants to play, you gots to pay. Not having a core is a problem, local builder charges $2K for no core. You are looking at $10K repair easy for parts and labor. Diesel and dollar both start with d for a reason.

Carl he maybe better off to just start all over. Meaning find a used truck to buy and sell what left of his. With parts and labor he is easily looking at a $10-20K repair bill. So unless he can do most of the work himself he might be better off starting over.

Ask him if he is going to let the girl friend drive anything of his again????? LOL

I do not think there is any cheap way around this, if you want cash there are websites that ask for donations.

carl,$5k is at the bottom of what 6.7's are normally priced at. If he could find a wrecked truck and buy it he would be better off. I've seen complete 6.7 trucks sell for $7,500. I know this doesn't help much but it is a though. He could get some of his money back by selling other parts off the truck after he pulls the motor. I've done this same thing on a 98 model truck a few years ago.

Please thank him for his service for me.

Might try Colaw RV salvage, as they advertise low mile engines removed from salvaged RVs. But, all I know about them is from visiting their website, as I have not ever bought anything from them or visited their facility.

Best Wishes!
