in WAY over my head

I was working at the church today and had a little time to glance at another project. There is an old (to me) Maas Rowe bell system in the church. It can be rung manually but for some reason not automatically. This was looked into 20 years ago or so and they were told no parts were available. With the internet today that may have changed. Does anyone here have any knowledge of this type of system.I have some pics, but none of the electric plungers or the hanging chimes. I know absolutely nothing about vacuum tubes so any help is useful. I need to talk to the last person that looked at it, but after 20 years the memory may be fuzzy. Thanks in advance.

Greg:

These are the folks you need to talk to, they made the unit.

Maas - Rowe Carillons, Inc.
2255 Meyers Ave.
Escondido, CA 92029
(760) 743-1311

Give them the Model # and Serial # , they should still have schematics for your unit and should be able to tell you what parts are available for it, also who could possibly repair it for you.

Thanks Walt. I did Google the name and found some info. I doubt the church will pay for a professional repair, small town church with an older dwindling population. Trying to do it on the cheap but I'll sure contact the company.

Where I went to university in NH there was a very nice bell system on the admin building in the bell tower that chimed every hour and did some really cool stuff at various times. Except it was just a PA system playing recordings.

I think that is what this one is mostly.
Church was built in 1954 and I think this
system cost around $1000 then. Top of the
line I guess. Pretty neat system, I'm
thinking it may be the time clock if it
works manually but not automatically. It
can be set up to ring daily or just
Sunday, maybe daily.

Hey Greg.

I have never worked on chimes but have serviced older time and temp signs which are similar electromechanical systems.

I would start with the tubes. You have proved that the mechanical part of the system operates by ringing them manually.

Vacuum tubes need to be hot to operate. If you can put your finger on one with the system on it is probably bad.

There may be a schematic printed somewhere in the case which would be helpful.

Good luck,

Brad
