I have been reading about the US wide reciprocity. About time if it's true, but still up until then it's a state wide money pit, whereas you have to have several CCW permits in order to travel into each and every state that doesn't recognize your states CCW permit. As long as it doesn't turn into the ,you must pass it before you can know whats in it, law.So far it's reading like our drivers license requirement, as long as you have a drivers license, you can drive nation wide,as long as it is current. Right now the criminals don't have to worry, they don't follow the laws anyway. I get a kick out of folks that get stopped on Cops Reloaded episodes, which are fun to view, especially the taser and K-9 episodes,ROFLMAO when the K-9's get the idiots who run because of no license with pockets full of dope. I love to see the K-9s chew on them.
Just keeping fingers crossed and hope the law goes thru.

The reason states accept driver's licenses from other states is that there is a basic threshold which any driver in any state must meet: Generally you have to be 16 years old, be a resident, pass a written test and meet the vision requirement. Not true in the case of concealed pistol permits, where the requirements vary widely.

That said, few politicians want to buck the NRA so the federal law has a good chance of getting through Congress. Then it will most likely get vetoed. And should it pass into law it will certainly get challenged in court.

A number of states have reciprocity already. But you have to be careful to observe the laws in that particular state as you visit. So it's a crap shoot, and you need to do your homework before you travel.

I can see a hidden danger in all this. We all know what can happen when the feds get involved. I foresee that they will want a national (federal) CC permit so that everything will be "universal" with the argument that it will be so much easier for law enforcement because they won't have to be able to interpret 50 different state laws. Then.... well, the fed philosophy will be that we need a national gun registry, and you all know what follows gun registration.

Firearms should not be a federal issue, period. The NRA will assist you with travel plans if you want them to. I will not respect or obey any federal law that infringes on my rights!

I'm still trying to get my head around the fact that states or municipalities can require a license/permit for a constitutional right making that right a privilege.

So I take it you are OPPOSED to federal legislation requiring all states to honor other states CPLs? Otherwise what you just said doesn't make sense.

This is a real hoot. If you have a weapon concealed, and keep it concealed, how would anyone know you are carrying a weapon? Then if you do happen to use this said weapon to defend yourself whether you had it concealed or not would be a mute point. I think all you guy's that got the permit fell into the same trap. Now the government knows how many guns are out there and where to look for them.
