Anyone Stocking-Up On Diesel While the Price is Down?

Bought some off road diesel over the weekend and the price was about $2.69 per gallon - much less than I paid last Summer. I might load-up all my jugs while the price is still down for this summer's work.

Or is this a bad idea, i.e. winter vs summer formulation and shelf life?

Anyone loading up on diesel now - for later, while the prices are down?

Thanks,
Bill

I prepay to lock in the price and take delivery as needed.

Locked in 1000 gallon a month ago at 2.40 and another 1000 at 2.25 last week. That should be enough to get me through the summer.

My supplier will give me the lower price if it is lower at delivery time.

Try to keep 2 55 barrels of non ethanol farm gas for my toys and emergency generator. Just last evening I pumped last into tractors, preparing to refill for next year.

also keep 2 barrels of diesel. What do you fellows recomend as additive to diesel fuel to prevent alge growing?

When I was going through a fair amount I bought every year at the time to get it low. I bought a 275 oil tank and manual pump, and beefed up the legs. I had my home heat company fill it. I traded it off after cutting back.

I don't think you have to worry about shelve life of your diesel fuel over a one year period. Todays gas is a different story.

Missed the boat here. Diesel for spring got down to 1.89. I was off on vacation. Last Tuesday it was 2.22 off the truck. But, to much cold weather ahead to mix in with my winter fuel. Locked in the spring fuel for 2.35.

Bill, I don't know where you are but yesterday I saw road diesel for $2.49 about half way between Mechanicsville and Tappahannock VA on RT 360

I tried. I took a couple drums to fill over the weekend. Problem was I could not fill both. My card would only let me put in 75.00 twice. I will need to go when the attendant is there on weekdays, so he can verify my card. Stan

Ran out about the 1st of October and had er filled, think it was $3.28, hate to admit it but I bought gas also, no alcohol premium for $3.48, so I'm good till next summer sometime, was actually less than I paid the year before, I was happy at the time.

Steve, I checked pure gas, Not even COUNTRYMARK or co-op sells pure gas close to where I live. I think where I live we are required to use formualted fuels because of the air polution.

I contracted enough farm fuel for this years crops. That was four weeks ago. I was able to lock in $1.79, I have to take 2500 gallon deliveries or there is a .05 delivery charge.

I almost prepaid for farm diesel in December. I am glad I did not. It was $3.20 then.

Well it can go back down now cause I just spent $550 to fill my truck, slip tank and 3 barrels. $1.92 for offroad, $2.31 for road.

I have talked to our supplier regularly and he will not let me contract this years fuel yet. Says it is just now going to go to moving down. Low want be here till at least three more weeks or latter. Talking $1.50 or lower or 10,000 gal contract. Off road.

I called for a fuel fill up about three weeks ago. Supplier promised a better price if I'd wait a couple of weeks, but now the price is trending up and we got 19" of snow last weekend. Guess I'm going to get serious about it and plow out a way to the tank.

I see it went up 17 cents today...good call taking the time to get it yesterday....
