Grants needed

The antique engine club that I belong to in NE Ohio is looking to build an Agricultural History Museum and looking for grant sources. Any one know of any possible sources?

Your county NRCS office has some available for "conservation". Not very large (generally around $500). Our FFA was awarded one. It will be used to upgrade the antique farm equipment display at our local museum. The display will now include seed plots showing common crops for our area and "soil saving" cover crops (gotta' get that conservation twist in the grant application). But the grant will also pay to upgrade the display stands, and create a gravel walkway.

Our local REA has an optional "round up" program, where monthly bills are rounded up to the next full dollar, and those funds are dispensed to a variety of groups/programs. Maximum cost to any customer is under $6 per year, but generates thousands of dollars with a customer base of about 8,000.

I LOVE museums, and ag museums even more.

That being said, a grant to help build one is one thing, sustainability is another.

Is there a plan in place to ensure it's continued upkeep/operation once it is funded/built?

I think the national Ag Hall of Fame in Bonner's Mill MO or KS had to close this year due to lack of visitors, lack of funds. Nice place, I enjoyed it, but few others did. I guess they couldn't even keep the lights on.

Contact your local state and Federal level politicians. They got million$$$$ to renovate an old opera house here out of an environmental protection fund. All tax payer dollars of course. I won't go into what I think of the whole thing, but that's how you do it.

Non-profit organizations are required to allow the public to view the latest three years of 990 forms. The link is a company that provides this service for non-profits. Type "tractor Museum" in the search box. You must sign up to view the information. Its interesting to see where these organizations get there money.

If you haven't already, You may want to set up a non profit org. 401C or something like that? Lots of hoops to jump through.

Our local county really never could get an engine show off the ground. Liability insurance will eat you alive !
