Use caution

Two or three years ago here in NH at least, the old admonition "be careful" was replaced with "use caution" It is especially popular with the state DOT. They have it on lots of signs on the road including illuminated read-a-board signs. Which is used in your area? Does anybody know what is behind the change?

I like the ones "BE PREPARED TO STOP". In my humble opinion it's good practice to always be prepared to stop. TDF

I don't know but I suspect some bureaucrat needed to change
"something" for the "better" (he thinks) to justify his job.

The older I get the more cynical I am.

It's quite simple as my brother stated whoever was elected into
office probably knew a contractor who made signs so they
decided to change the slogan from B careful to use caution so
his buddy got awarded the contract to make the signs and
make millions of dollars. Lol

I'm sure it has something to do with some
psychological study to see which word people
responded to.

To me, the word "CAUTION" seems to be more
authoritative. Take action NOW!!!

"BE CAREFUL" sounds like something my grandmother
would tell me might happen if I run with those
scissors! LOL

"Be careful" on road signs might have been local thing, didn't see it in this area. "Use Caution" or "Proceed with Caution" are common here.

Be careful isn't very specific, just business as usual. Proceed with caution implies enter at your own risk.
