Another Chevy Truck story

My neighbor was a Chevy mechanic before he went to Caterpillar. He was driving to Peoria in a chevy truck 3 on the tree with a motor he built in his garage, with 2 boys from the neighborhood. They kept rasing him on chevys being junk you know "Rather push a Ford then drive a Chevy" they were going 55mph he looked over at them put the truck in reverse and stood on the gas pedal truck went sideways tires squealing and smoking both kids white as a ghost he clutched it put it back in 3rd burned the tires off and said" when your Ford does that we'll talk" The two boys are now in their late 50's and the neighbor is passed on but they still remember it and laugh about it now

You realy think we believe you can put a standard tranny in reverse going 55. I was born at nite but not last nite.

(quoted from post at 11:27:24 02/08/15) You realy think we believe you can put a standard tranny in reverse going 55. I was born at nite but not last nite.

With a fully synchronized tranny, yes, it is possible. I've seen it done, except he never let the clutch up.

Back in my stock car racing days, one of my pit crew guys had a Chevy pickup, 400 big block with a 400 auto trans.

He and a couple other guys got half snockered one night and while driving 70 mph got to arguing whether an automatic trans would shift into reverse going forward at that speed. So my buddy tried it.

It did. Also cost him a transmission rebuild.

I couldn't resist it. I asked him if he knew how many cases of beer he could have bought with what that trans cost him.

If the back tires are locked up YES it will go into reverse, floor it side step the clutch and hang on to your hat your going for a ride! BTDT! Bandit

I was driving a "68 charger home late one night about 35 years ago, dropped something on floor, reached to pick it up, (probably a lit cigarette) bumped gear shift into reverse when I sat back up, going 65 mph, did a complete 360 in the middle of US 2, killed engine, restarted it and finished trip. AND changed undies..

Yep use to do it on a 58 Ford 4 door sedan. Lock up the brakes on a gravel road at 60 mph, shift into reverse, dump the clutch and floor it. Never saw so much dust in my life!

I wonder how drunk....or stupid you have to be to do a trick like that......What exactly is that supposed to demonstrate anyway?

Buddy of mine on my first tour at Ft Riley had a Chevy II with an auto on the floor. Now this was "back in the day" no child seats requited. His wife was holding the baby and the baby kicked the gear shift from D to R. Cost him an engine. Same guy was later accused of child abuse. Turned out a baby sitter had beat his daughter to a pulp. Baby was sleeping/unconscious when they got home. They didn't know about till the baby woke up/came to screaming. It took almost a year for he and his wife to clear themselves. Case of guilty until proven innocent by the Army even though he lived off post. Man they promoted him fast after they finally found the baby sitter (she fled right after it happened) 150 miles away. Her running prevented the civilian authority from prosecuting him and his wife. When she was picked up she confessed right away. Mike went from Pvt E2 to Spc E4 in about 4 months.
