OK so I ran out of gas on the yard and needed some for an engine transfer -and needed some for a trial run - well I thought I would just siphon some out of the puller M -- Every time I burp I taste gas -- surely you guys have never done that! Baaa

I remember it well. When I was young we got snowed in. Dad was gone for some reason (he worked off the farm some and traveled) and the fuel barrel was empty. Mom was going to siphon gas from the Mercury to put in the plow tractor. She cut a length of green garden hose and proceeded to drink some leaded gas. I don't know how much, but us boys were real worried she was going to keel over. Every time she burped it smelled like gas. I still remember sitting on the floor beside the bed and talking to her and smelling gas. She's still ticking. I guess dying ain't that easy.

I have never swallowed any gasoline but have had it in my mouth many, many times. Helps to have a coke handy to rinse mouth out. I always remember a customer who had a 303 combine and ran out of gas. Could not get it restarted, out in the field. I told him to see if it had a hand lever on the fuel pump but that was too much for him to figure out. Told him to take off the gas line at carb and suck it up. No way he says. So I drive out, no hand pump so I sucked it up for him. That was in the leaded gas era. Actually I think diesel fuel tastes worse. Trick is though to have a long enough hose when siphoning that you never even taste it.

I seen a fellow end up with a mouth full of Gasoline when the temperature was -40 deg. He had the enamel on several teeth immediately crack! He sounded like a hog being castrated.

i would say about all of us are guilty of that at least once in our lifetime.way more than once for me.

Process known as "using the country credit card." It was popular around here until we got our first diesel tractor. We found a neighbor's car just down the road the next morning. He actually asked if we could help get it running. When we smelled the fuel, dad went back to the house for something. A few minutes later, the sheriff showed up. Someone had been stealing gas from several farmers and now found out who it was.

Yup, mix of gas and diesel, (wrong stuff put in tank on a tractor I was operating), still smelled like diesel when it came out the other end the next day!
Also had antifreeze in my mouth, but was able to spit it out that time (big dummy opened a hot radiator).

I have done that a time or two. I found if I stick the hose in the tank, and blow in the tank opening it will start the gas flowing. Stan

Oh yeah! It's been a few years, but have had a few mouthfuls of gas. Back when I was a kid mowing lawns... Would run out of gas in the can, no way to get to town, so siphon some out of moms Pontiac. I remember the "all day out in the sun, belching gas" very well! LOL

But, that is nothing compared to a few years later... Hanging with some people I shouldn't have, this biker had a plastic flask of homemade shine in his saddle bag. He passed it around, several people took a hit, none seemed to really enjoy it but no adverse effects, so I took a swig.

OMG!!! I probably had a teaspoon in my mouth, maybe swallowed a 1/4 teaspoon before gagging and violently spitting the rest out! At that moment I forgot all about being macho man enough to run with the big dogs, I just wanted that nasty stuff away from me!!! I remember my throat burning and belching that crap for the rest or the day! Much worse than a mouthful of gasoline!

LOL. Last time I did that I ended up with gas up my nose. I didn't think the burn and the smell would ever go away.

Always, always blow on the hose to make sure it is submersed in liquid before trying to siphon.

I keep an extra outboard motor primer bulb on a couple lengths of plastic hose for that these days. Last used it to siphon 20 gal of gas out of van gas tank that needed fuel pump replaced. a little tricky to get it flowing but works good, and doesn't taste bad.

Just buy one of these check valve hoses. You just shake it up and down 3 or 4 times and gas is running. I have one. It works for transferring gas from a tractor to a atv etc. You cant get it down a car or truck tank to transfer though. It is handy. No bad taste.
siphon here

I got mine from HF for $7-20% off. I use it all the time, no after taste, to transfer gas from a 5 gallon can to tractor. It will also work transfering gas from tractor back to can. Again no after taste
