OT suggestions for a CB

I am thinking a CB would be handy in the
Kenworth to get an idea of traffic problems
ahead. What would be a good brand, model or
best accessories for longest range? Thanks

Best range happens when you take a new or unaltered CB and have a guy in a radio or CB shop turn it up. Many of the newer ones can be turned up to give out a much stronger signal just buy turning a little trimmer screw.

That and make sure you use a meter on the antenna and makes sure it's tuned right.

I have tons of different CB's and Cobra by far is my favorite. The Classic 29ltd Is what I have in my truck with dual procomm antennas and it works great! So if you looking for good quality and long lasting I recommend a Cobra.

I have sold a ton of Cobra 29ltd classics with Wilson 5000 antennas to truckers in the oilfield. They can be adjusted for more power out, but legally they can only put out 4 watts on the cb channels. Just get the antennas tuned with a SWR meter and they work fine.

From personal experence , A conexx 3300 is a great CB radio. Personally i think the best. I know they make a 3300HP and a 4400HP also. But when i was running a truck with a radio i ran the 3300 connex with a oil filled road king antenna. and also runing a lot of extra wattage also. Had the radio peeked and tuned and it was BadA$$. Whats funny i was just telling someone today about that radio. Myself and a few buddies all had the same radio and worked with different antennas to see what would put out and talk the best. The road king oil filled was hands down the best.

I don't know if they are any good but the truck already has dual mounted antennas.

As I understand it - new "out of the box" is low power. The high power Connex is after the dealer takes it apart and "tweaks" it a little.

Depending on the budget. Most economical way older cobra 29 or148 with No sound tracker cr$p with a wilson 2000 antenna or a wilson 1000 mag mount. Cost would be about 180$ to 225$ . Money to burn Ranger communications inc would be where I'd start . 2950 or 2970 great radios a ton of features and simple hook up. Dream radio ranger 7600 with the 400 watt amp in the radio stock . When you talk EVERYBODY listens!

I forgot to mention a super radio won't talk past the hood with out a good antenna. Limited budget buy the best antenna you can then buy a radio. Oh no dual antenna set up. You can't properly match them as they will be to close and cancel the signal out.

when i bought mine the 3300 HP or the 4400HP was not out. The connnex 3300 was one of the top of the line radios at the time. It really was 10 watts straight out of the box. You would have to de tune it if you run a linear. You didnt want more than 4 watts of dead key going thru a linear.

I know it used to be ,i dont know what it is now. Thats why the connex was called an illegal radio at the time but so were linears but alot of us run them

No i wasent, i was respectable on there. But when i talked they heard me. There were folks on there that did just as you are saying and they did me the same till i got the connex and linear. Being i had what i had i would talk to folks all over the united states and once to Jamica all on side band channels

I do run a CB but most of the time it is worthless. You will find the local guys may have one turned on, but the interstate bunch either do not speak English, or are on the cell phone.

All of the tweaking and turning up power may help others hear you further, but it does nothing to let you hear them better, which in listening to road conditions is what counts.
