Advice Needed For Compact Tractor

Better Half is trying to convince me to get a new Compact Tractor. I told her when she wins the lottery than we can afford one.
Just in case she wins, my specs would be : 25-30 HP, 4X4, All season cab, and front-mount snow-blower. I really have no idea of what transmission.
What would be something to consider, brand etc?

For a snow blower, I would consider a hydrostatic transmission, Very handy for inching the blower into heavy snow without bogging down the engine. Also handy for a loader, should you want one now or later on. Brands: Kubota, Deere, New Holland, Mahindra are all good, maybe some other brands I haven't mentioned. Depends on your preference, the strength of the dealer (s) in your area and how good a deal you can get.

Never mind the brand. Your first consideration should always be a reputable dealer, who has been in business for a long time, and is very knowledgeable about the product he sells.

I have a New Holland tc33D and I use it all the time like it. When I bought it, I looked at Deere, Kubota, Kioti and settled on NH. Because of local dealership. I have a great bend loader with the skid steer bracket so it is easy to mount skid steer stuff. Forks and I think a front mount blower will also mount to this. I had a rear mount blower but sold it. Don't like turning around all the time, hard to do with a bad back! Would recommend hydrostatic transmission as mentioned before a necessity when blowing snow. Deere and Kubota were also very good.

I'd definitely look into what dealers you have and their reputation. We had a 33 hp MT 265 challenger, supported by agco, it saw quite a bit of use, and I have serviced and repaired it prior to its later years at the farm. I never ran into any obstacles, it gave quite a few hours and use, but was outclassed, we needed something much larger and they have a NH there now, forget the model.

The challenger was hydrostatic, you'll want weather protection from a blower, handy and easy to operate, they are narrow and not as stable as a similar size utility tractor of the past.

Dealer/parts support and re-sale comes to mind with any of these, so aside from brand and specifications, it would be good to know what you have there first. With so many out there today, I'd have a fun time even considering which direction I would go in, hopefully you'll do better LOL!

WHAT!?!?!?!?
You must read on here often how guys are wanting and/or needing just what you describe, and the better half won't approve it? I personally know one, maybe two. And you are refusing this golden opportunity? You should be disowned by your YT brethren!

Hurry up and go pick one out for valentines day !!!

What local dealers do you have ?

JD , Kubota , New Holland in that order ?

Made me smile, Bob. ;) and agree.

I don't like hydro trannies in a tractor, but for snow blowing utility it probably is the way to go, or look at.

I too would err on the high side of the hp range.

Clearly it will be 4wd, the little buggers are not weighted and wheelbased like a real farm tractor, helpless without the 4wd.

And a loader on it, no point to the little fellas unless they come with a loader? Handy as a Swiss pocket knife.

I got a NH 1720 a decade ago, 27hp loader 4wd regular transmission. Man use that thing every day on the farm, handy as all get out. Don't know what I did without it. Wish it was a tad bigger some days, but it had to fit in the 8x8 barn doors to scoop manure out.

IMHO, you cannot do better than Kubota in the compact/sub compact tractor market. Second choice would be HD.

Unless you want to spend a long time clearing snow with a snow blower, 25 - 30 HP is not enough. Snow blowers eat HP. I would starat at 40 HP. More is better.

Definitely get a hydrostatic transmission for a snow blower tractor.

I would give serious thought to:
1) Kioti
2) Mahindra

Kioti makes some of the better subcompacts and compacts on the market today. They are a South Korean manufactured tractor, built well, with a price normally below the Big 3 tractors.

I have an L 3400 Kubota hydro trans.4x4 with loader....I pull a 6 ft. bush hog, 5 ft. tiller it'll be all the tractor you'll need

First thing to do is choose a dealer near you.

1. Deere
2. New Holland
3. Massey Ferg.
4. Kubota
5. Cub cadet

Two brands that probably do have a good tractor but neither are priced completive when you get down to pricing the exact same features at your Kubota dealer. Why buy an off brand that will not be worth half what you pay for it in five years. Kubota or John Deer will hold their value a lot better. Also parts and dealer support will probably be better at one of the sellers that have been around longer.

Kubota with a hydro-static trans. I have a 1988 F-2000(20hp) with a 48" blower that will go threw 16" of snow with no problem. I clear about an acre of drives and parking areas in about 1.5 hours. I use this unit to mow in the summer, so for me, removable doors and windows are a must.
