Allis Chalmers ED 40 fuel filter

I am helping a friend work on and restore an ED-40 and we need a fuel filter. No telling when it was last changed. The AC part no. is good but Sandy Lake tells me there is none in North America. Does anyone know if it can be matched up to a filter that is available?

Also would like to talk with anyone who has an ED 40.

Thanks, Tom

There was one for parts for sale north of me in Fort
Covington NY. I believe they're a standard diesel
engine with a CAV fuel system. Maybe a Massey or
David Brown filter or NAPA would cross something.

Thanks Brendon. We aren't really looking for a parts tractor as this one runs well. Have fixed brakes, steering box, front axle ( bent), dent in fuel tank, working on painting, and in the future the rear end axle seals. NAPA is a possibility if we can't come up with a sure replacement. Thanks Tom

what exactly is an ED40? Have heard of them but
not sure. Made where?Fellow tryed once to tell me
there was an AC made with chevrolet motor. I
called BS.

Seems like you have an AC part number?

WHY not post it on the remote chance someone has one or can cross it.

It wouldn't hurt to post photos of the old filter and housing/head, as well.

Likely, it is a Lucas or some other UK brand that was used on other brands, as well. Someone can probably help you OF you post the CLUE you already have!

ED 40 was made in England in the early 60s. Had a 35+ 40 hp diesel engine made by Standard Riccardo I think. It was similar to a D 15 but different, 4speeds, high and low range.About 450 were imported to US, some more to Canada. Total production if I remember was only about 5000. It seems like a very nice tractor.

Ok Bob,good idea. Here is the AC number. 725429. I understand that that is an old number and the new number is the same but with 70 in front of it, 70 725429. Again, thanks for anything anyone may come up with. Tom

OBVIOUSLY for any filter you attempt to use, verify that it seals top and bottom and will fit in the canister without getting scrunched and damaged.

There was one sold in PA at an auction I went to
probably been 25 years ago with D15 decals on it bet the new owner was surprised when he went for a part.I wasn't 100% sure at the time but checked it out later and it was definitely a ED40.

Aren't those just a WD45 with a diesel engine in them ?
I used to work with an older fellow who had or has one. Engine was apart as he could not find parts.

If it helps the diesel is almost identical to the Standard 23C
(4cyl) diesel as used in the FE and early MF-35. It may take
the same filters. Good luck. Sam

There is / was one up here in Northern Ontario and I googled Tractordata.com for specs. They do look like a D17 in a smaller scale. The owner wanted $2500.00 so I passed on it. -- it's probably still there.
