Ever think of RUNNING the football that close to the goal line with a couple plays remaining???????????????????? Stupidity will beat you every time lol

John T

Don't like anything about either teams home city other than they can't be moved here. So don't really care about stuper bull exlax.

That said I can't say I saw any decent commercials either. Wish there was an alternative to locktite after seeing that one.

What possessed Seattle to call a pass play with 2nd and goal at the half yard line?

Kept loosing our signal and sound during entire game - don't know if problem was with Dish or with our local NBC station WPSD in Paducah. Signal stayed on just long enough to see the interception and last 15 seconds on the clock.

Now for April 5th at 7:05 pm - Cards and Cubs.

This ending makes you wonder if the NFL is rigged. Maybe the outcome was determined before the game ever started.

I don't believe it's rigged, but you sure do wonder at times like this

That was a heck of a catch by the sea hawks to get to the 1/2 yard line, bounced between his knees while going down but, still was able to catch the ball.

Heck. I don't even like to watch sports. I only watched this because so many said it was a waste of time. Raining and dark here, can't do much anyway.

Last Super Bowl I (partially) remember watching was Super Bowl XVI.

My only thought on the Seahawks last play was, they thought New England would be expecting the run .....So we will throw a slant..will happen so fast they won't know what hit them...WRONG.. I am not a real fan of either team, but did enjoy watching. gobble

Prawnfarmer,

Same thing here in Anna. It must have had something to do with WPSD signal. I only had a digital antennae where I was tonight. So it wasn't Dish.

Who calls a pass play on a second down and 2 yards to goal? Was that the quarterback or the main seahawks coach? Seems like a no brainer to stay with a ground run into the end zone when you are that close to scoring.

Yep, we gave that one away. Just give it to the beast, Marshawn Lynch, and in he goes.

Seahawks offensive coordinator was all set to be announced as Atlanta's new head coach- wonder if that bonehead final play will make them reconsider?

Glad you guys enjoyed the game! the next big sporting event I'll be watching will be on the first Saturday of May! Lol

I didn't watch the game or the commercials. That said, I just read an article that said the majority of the commercials this year went out of their way to be "serious" and had a "message" rather than funny like they've been in the past.

I wonder how this is going to work out for all those companies. I mean remember "Where's the beef", the "Bud--Wise---Err" frogs, and others? Yep, as bad as we hate to admit it funny typically goes over far better, and is more memorable, than serious, every day of the week.

Dumb last play by Hawks. When the game was about to get under way, lost sound on that channel. All other channels worked ok. After about 15 minutes the sound came back on and it was in Spanish or some foreign language. I figured the local Mexicans had crawled up the tower out of town, not really. It was that way for about 15 minutes or so. Then sound went off again and in a few minutes it came back in English.

Yup, one of the better Superbowls, even though I'm disappointed by the final score. So often it ends up being pretty much over by halftime.

Seemed like a large number of the commercials were the video equivalent of "motivational posters". Kind of liked the Victoria's Secret commercial in the 4th quarter, though.

Haven't watched the stupid bowl for about 40 years. I can think of about 100 other things that I'd rather do. The game is all for money - nothing to do with me and does nothing for me.

So....You're 1/2-yard away from winning a second super bowl in a row. You have a back that cannot be stopped before he goes 6 or 8 yards, even with half the defense hanging on him. You have essentially 3 downs to punch it in....

So....

You throw into tight coverage on a short field. (10-1/2 yards from scrimmage line to back of end zone) Who thought THAT could go wrong...?

No wonder Pats owners fired Pete Carroll before Belicheat was hired in 2000.

My only regret is they BOTH couldn't have lost.

Commercials weren't much to talk about either.

I did enjoy the ESPN 30 for 30 special that aired prior to the game. 78% of all NFL players are bankrupt within 2 years of their career's ending. Paints a clear picture of the genious' we're talking about here....

Kinda surprised by the beginning-- Air Force One could have been in the center of the Thunderbird flyover, how could that be overlooked?

Yep, a long time ago in a land far away, we only read Playboy magazines for the interesting articles in them!

At the end of the chess game, the kings and the pawns all go back in the same box.

Seahawks wouldn't even have been in the game at the end if the ball hadn't fallen into the receiver's hands as he was lying on his back. What a gift!!

That could have been the greatest comeback in the history of the superbowl if they hadn't screwed it up. That catch was amazing but it's meaningless if you don't punch it in.

Something like 4.5 million for a 30 sec. ad ?
Not long into the game with all those Chevy commercial's I thought here we go again we're going to have to bail GM out again !

One of the best super bowls I remember though.

I kinda liked the fight at the end of the game, I'm not a football fan at all but my wife is, I was wanting to go to Bass Pro Shop but can't drive right now and the wife refused to miss the superbowl.

Hi all, I think things may have been different
if seattle didn't draw so many penalties. They
got what they deserved. Ed will

Last year Pete Ca....(sp) told his players to go ahead and violate the rules any way they could get the job done. He said that the refs would not throw a flag on every play. They cheated big time and won.
They probably could have stabbed someone and not gotten a flag thrown.
He's a slimeball.

I was at work.
Couldn't watch.
good luck
Kenny

Yup. The Budweiser frogs/ferret commercials were the best of all time. I doubt if they can ever be equaled.

Don't pay much attention to modern rock/pop music or whatever they call it nowdays, but Katy Perry did an exceptional half time show. One of the better ones I've seen , in my humble opinion.

Just like to say a piece.....
Start with I don't like football. For that matter, I don't like ANY professional sports.
However, if those that do enjoy such things want to spend their time and money on those things, I have no objection or comment.
Now, I will get to the real purpose of my post...

I really enjoy old machinery, whether it is cars, trucks, tractors, or even lawn mowers. My entire life has been spent around machinery of one sort or another. That is why I spend my time on a tractor forum - reading about tractors, farming, and other machinery. I give advice on engine repairs and other subjects that I feel qualified to speak on. Otherwise, I usually sit back and read and learn - hopefully.

Here are the things I HATE about football:
1) It is a complicated game with ambiguous rules that I care not to interpret or understand.
2) A bunch of overpaid street thugs beating up on each other is not what I call entertainment.
3) Armchair athletes. Always seem to know better than the professionals that are being paid millions to play the game. Second guess every play that they don't like. If they know so much about how it is done, why are they not out there making the millions themselves???
4) Being in my face. I cannot go anyplace without hearing sports talk. After a while it gets on my nerves. I continually have people try to engage me in sports talk. I politely decline. If they persist, I get rude. Just don't want it in my face. Again, I come to a tractor forum to read or post about tractors - NOT FOOTBALL.

The first amendment to the US Constitution gives you the right to talk about whatever you want, but does NOT guarantee you an audience.

At the very minimum, this thread should be down below in tales. Just my opinion.

Right! The fluke play was the Seahawk's "on his butt" catch of the deflected pass. The interception two plays later was just a show of great reflexes by the Patriot's defender...and maybe sort of bad play selection by the Seahawk's coaching staff. Good old American mis-management strikes again....Or maybe Russell Wilson could have been a little more careful, who knows? It was a darned good game anyway....if you like football, of course.

Ah, the perennial argument over "off topic" posts. Many of us are interested in more things than farming and tractors, as evidenced by this being the longest thread on the page.

It is pretty clearly labeled- "Super Bowl". Those who aren't interested should simply pass it by. Posts here aren't a zero-sum game: that is, an off topic post doesn't prevent someone from posting a tractor post. Just skip over it.

When you go to the coffee shop in the morning, topics aren't limited to everyone's common interests, and I don't see why they should be here. Many of us post both here and in Tales, but Talk gets a much larger readership. Tales can be a little "clique-ish", and those who are not regulars often don't like it.

I was surprised at how many posted about not liking football (why bother posting, then?), but I don't object to those posts- in a fair discussion, everyone should get to state his view (but I do object to those who say they not only hate watching football, but that everyone who does is an idiot). What I do object to are those who say we shouldn't even talk about it. I have come to know a lot about personalities of the posters after 15 years or so on here, and like to hear what they have to say, even if I don't agree. I sure don't want to just tell them to shut up if they don't share my viewpoint.

So, if this is the virtual coffee shop, why is the forum titled Tractor Talk?

I never much objected to the majority of the off topic posts. I would like to see it stay at least more oriented towards farming. Seed drills, combines, plows, haybines, etc. all seem to fit right in with the whole farming theme.
But, if this is to be just an open forum, why bother having a topic heading at all? The topic heading is what draws me to this forum to start with. I don't read the brand specific forums because the headings do not attract my interest. When I want to talk about my other interests and hobbies, I go to the related forums to do that. I don't think that the other YTers are interested in model building, knitting, sewing, quilting, fishing, or coin collecting - at least not so much on this forum.

I choose not to talk about football because it does not interest me. From the majority of the posts here, there are a majority that simply do not care. I have no problem with others being interested in sports, but I also think that there are plenty of sports forums to post on. I just get so tired of having it in my face throughout the season. So why clutter up a tractor forum with football? Maybe Chris and Kim will put up a sports forum so that the football talk will be right at home.

Hey jimg - I didn't profess to be an "in your face" armchair quarterback and I really, really sure as heck don't accept you as my self-appointed armchair moderator, either.

On your poster profile, there is a feature you might want to review. It's called "review all posts by jimg.allentown". You are without prejudice, all about tractors and on topic?

Maybe a third of the posts on here are about tractors. I do buy parts from Yesterdays Tractors - how about you? It's their site and it's their nickel, not yours. I sure can't have this same kind of rapport buying my parts at TSC or Rural King.

Also, you say, "At the very minimum, this thread should be down below in tales." Okay. Fair enough, however, shouldn't yours be in "Site Comments" then? What kind of "armchair" moderator are you, anyway?

You must not have counted , the majority of the post were from folks that watched the game . I find it hard to believe so many people let it bother them that there was a football game on TV .

Mike,
You make your point well.
If a guy doesn't like it, don't read it, etc.
Here's where I differ though:
There aren't many places where a guy can ask about roller chain, grain bins, buying keyed shafting, barn roofing, ditches, wire gauges, species of wood and concrete.
The knowledge here pertaining to those and other things makes this place unique.
As for sports, as I have said here before, there are literally thousands of web sites where folks can discuss their games. Plus, you can go on TV and radio and listen to 24/7 sports talk.
Isn't that enough for you fans?
I agree with jimg that people's fervor over sports make them an annoyance.
They seem to think it's okay to talk all sports, all the time. No matter what the occasion or venue or topic at hand might be.
This place is unique. And I for one would hate to see it get 'ruined' by becoming just another place to talk your games.

Monday evening and I still haven't heard the score. Couldn't care less. If you wanted to learn how to cheat and be corrupt either of the head coaches could be prime teachers. I'm glad neither one is my neighbor. I'd like to have heard that they had to play 9 overtimes and they each couldn't field a team (too tired)so they kissed each other on the 50 yard line and let the gamblers fight it out in the courts. The older I get the more I can do without those highly over paid primadonnas trying to cheat their way to the top, just like the dross surfaces in pure molten metal. Nothing wrong with the game of football...... it's just the depths the NFL has taken it to. That's this old boys opinion.

Bother me??? No. Tired of it being in my face everywhere I go. All I have heard for the last month is "super bowl this" and "super bowl that." Just got sick of hearing about it.
Now, a little defense is in order.....
I suggest you scroll back a few pages to see how many posted that they were not interested, did not like football, or thought the whole thing was a waste of time. There are at least 3 other threads relating to football. I have read them all. The majority is don't care, not interested. Maybe not a huge majority, but nevertheless a majority.

In case you have misunderstood my post, I will clarify:
1) I don't care about ball games.
2) It does not bother me if they are on TV. Mine gets turned on about once or twice a week to look at the news/weather.
3) I personally feel that a tractor forum is NOT the place for a football discussion.
4) Armchair athletes that can barely pick up a ball, let alone play the game, are quick to point out what and how it should have been played. Makes me want to rip my hair out and scream. If they know so much, why are they not playing/coaching??? Then too, hindsight is always 20-20.

Let the flames begin!!!!

Call them players what you want....but don't call them "actors". The best "actors" in Hollywood couldn't do what they did unless they had 10 takes to to it in. This was live...no one is that good.

seahawks sore losers best team won bunch of crybaby thugs!get over it got super lucky in green bay game and in this one also and still got beat.

I had one Uncle and one aunt in my life. no other aunts or uncles. The one uncle who married that one aunt moved to Allentown. They lived there until he died.

I was in Allentown just for his funeral, and swore I would never go back.

It seems everyone in that town was a complete bummer when it came to anything outside of Allentown.

What is in your water out there? What makes it seem like if you don't like it, no one else should like it either?

You live for this "flaming" stuff. i'm glad you have a reason, but please don't reinforce my belief that all of Allentown is like you. I get chills when I read your posts. I don't blame you. Go outside of Allentown. stay there for a while.

You would be surprised what the rest of the world is like.

BTW. My uncle had articles in Hot Rod mag in the 1960's. He was one heck of a machinist. He lived like my grandfather, but, he moved away. After that, he didn't have an original thought left in him. He died pretty much alone, aside from my aunt and 3 people in the machine shop.

When he lived near Pittsburgh, he was the man to be caught. After he moved out there, he was just a minion. I don't know much except that if you want flame wars to be had, you should come west, or south of Allentown. Just get away from there and try to be someone who isn't the guy who you are right now.

It's not fair that you beg for a flame war and think you don't stink. I understand it is because of where you live. I do believe the water system is to blame. stop bathing in it and join the rest of the world.

BTW,

I do love you , Jim. I wish you the best, always.

If I could buy you a meal or spend a day with you, I would. I think you are the reason that this country is so great. Thank you so much.

Wow. That was as close to a personal attack without actually being one that I have seen yet.

Do you have so little tolerance for another man's opinion that you need to imply that I am mentally ill? Or that my water is poisoned? Or is it that I need to like football and bring it into every tiny corner of my life to be "normal" like others?

There are a lot of things in this life that I do not like. Football and beer are two of them. I have done nothing more here than to express my opinion. That opinion is that I don't feel that football is an appropriate topic for a TRACTOR FORUM. That is and remains my opinion. Feel free to disagree. You are also free to express your opinion here. And I am free to like, dislike, or to be annoyed by it.

Also, if my posts are so "evil" that they "give you chills" (your words. not mine) than I would recommend that you skip over them.

I offer help or advice if I feel qualified to answer a call for help.
I send prayers when they are called for (like for Rusted).
I express my opinion on many subjects that draw my interest.
I also tend to get annoyed at some things. Just like any other poster on these forums.
That is who I am. Sorry if I do not measure up to your high standards. But know this - it isn't the water.

I can't comment. I can't risk to be banned, as someday I will need to have the advice that other tractor guys give to me.

What I can say is that a sport is offense and defense. The offense makes an attack, the defense counters the attack and pushes back.

When you post something saying, "let the flame wars begin." You are going on the offense.

You do that quite often. You flamed Bryce, you flamed me, you flamed others and you sat back and waited for the defense to attack so that you could post a retort, which counter-acts that defense. You have proved my point completely.

You love sports, but your sport is debating. It is not a physical sport, but a sport, none-the-less.

It's ok that you do that. I want you to understand that what you do is completely hypocritical to the messages you post. You do love sports, but you don't consider them to be sports. I get it. I get it completely. That is why I don't hold it against you, or attack you in a fashion comparable to a lineman sacking a quarterback. I want you to still be the captain of your team. I just want to help you understand that you do engage in a sport, and you need to help yourself know that the sport of debate might not be physical, but still does exist.

Good thing this topic has drifted so far down the forum. I don't want to draw attention, but I want you to know that I love your sport and I wnt you to continue. I just want you to have some fun and feel like you are a winner.

You are a winner, Jim. You are doing so good. I just don't want you to walk to the endzone unopposed. I want to give some resistance, and make it know that I am playing your game.

thank you so much. You make my day when you play this offense. It gives me a chance to defend and plant a good goal line stance. I just hope you will play with me more, just not on this topic so far down the board. Pick a new one and I will follow. Just be gentle on the guys who don't know you are playing a game.
