O/T Question for the Half Time Show

My wife and I don't agree on this. Katie Perry was wearing a hearing aid device in her left ear. I told my wife this is how security stays in touch with the performers. My wife says it is for the performer to hear their back up singers. It may be for both but I lean toward the security side. Anyone know the correct answer to this??

Thanks,
John B.

can't say for sure, but working in that noisy an environment you'd be deaf pretty quick, do they act as noise cancelling ear plugs, wouldn't be surprised if they do it all...

Wife is likely correct (as usual). I can do other things at 1/2 time, like fill the woodbox and have a refreshing beverage and start dinner. Go Hawks !!

It's called a stage monitor. It actually plays back her own voice, with a lower level recording of everyone else so she can hear herself. When I played in bands(years before in-ear stage monitors were around) we had peavey stage monitors on the front edge of the stage, facing back towards us. It was near impossible to hear sometimes, even with the stage monitors.

I second johns reply. In ear stage monitors. I also played in
bands. The stage monitors were always set dry, no reverb or
effects, clean channel.

I'm having to sit threw Curious George! With my daughter of course, but shes ready for bed now. Lol

Ear phones so the "performer" can hear themselves and background music from the accompanyment.

Now my question... what was all that racket between halves? Sure wasn't music, not entertaining. Should have gone out in the weather and done the chores. Sure wasted my time.

I watched How to Train your Dragon with the kids. Schools canceled tomorrow for snow so we could stay up late.

You need to expand your horizons a little, she's not my favorite singer by a long shot but she probably makes more $$$ in one nights singing than both of us will in a lifetime.

Since this is a tractor/farm related board, this must be what you guys are talking about???

Just one year, I'd like to see Loretta and Kitty Wells and Pasty Kline and the rest.

Actually, the answer is:

D. All of the above.

They are in-ear stage monitors, so she can hear herself and the music and stay on pitch.

They are hearing protectors. Most of the old-school performers are going deaf from performing with no hearing protection, so younger performers are protecting their hearing. If they wore regular ear plugs they wouldn't be able to hear themselves and stay on key.

They are also a communications device so that the producer/director/stage manager, or security, can pass messages to the performer(s).
