Tractor trade -- what do you think

This isn't really about antique tractors, but I figured I'll take all the input I can get. I have a 3594 with 7700hrs on it. Runs out good, have duals, new paint, radiator and seat. Have a guy who would like to trade his 5088 for my 3594. His tractor has similar hours, new injection pump, fresh overhaul, fresh paint. His doesn't have duals or weights. Big question to me is -- whats the reliability of a case 24sp powershift with 8000 hrs, and what does a rebuild cost vs the reliability of a 5088 sts tranny that MAY NOT have had the gear teeth updated.

The IH 5088 is older than your Case 3594. I always thought that the Case designed tractors where more rugged than the IH later models, 86 and 88 series.

As for value the IH 5088 is actually of lessor value than the CIH 3594. I would rather keep the tractor I KNOW the history on over the fear of an unknown tractor of the same hours/usage. Your really not gaining much by doing this trade.

You also need to watch as some parts for the IH 5088s are harder to find. It is not a big issue right now but will be in the years to come. I think the 3594 will have better parts support than the 5088 in the long run.

In the long term, parts for the 5088 will be available longer because of the commonality to the Magnums. Seems like stupid stuff is going NLA like the cooling fan shaft, etc. DT-436/466 engine parts will always be around.

There's a shop in southern Il that rebuild's 88-series tractors to new condition. He normally has 6-8 tractors in line waiting their turn. He never has problems finding parts.
