Dist problem

My friend has a ferguson to30 with a contentinal Z129 eng and it is trying to push the dist out straight up and jumping when running, If the oil pump was trying to seize, would this cause this? He broke one dist by it breaking a ear when it was trying to jump up and out, I would be thankfull for any help here

The oil pump is not under the distributor, pump is bolted under the front main cap. Is there any cam teeth damage for the distributor drive?

If I remember correctly the cam is loose and bouncing fore and aft. Has to do with cam not being retained properly.
Timing cover will have to come off.

Thank you very much, We were thinking of all types of fixes including splitting the tractor in half, We will check the cam first though, Again Thank you
