I was wondering how hay is doing right now? I know the market is well off the highs from a couple of years ago. If anybody has any info about here in the Northeast all the better.

United Producers here in St Louis Michigan is quoting square bales at $1.50-4.50,rounds at $7.50-72.50.
I don't know how close you are to a U.P. sale barn, but click the link, then change it to the location nearest to you.

Seems like a range that broad makes the quote pretty much meaningless. I've bought (and sold) hay over the past 40 years, and have never got (or paid) less than $1.50 for small squares, nor more than $4.00. And their range on rounds is even worse.

I'm in NW Oregon and sold all my small square oat hay at 6.00/bale within a month of harvest. Now my grass hay is going for 6.00 and will probably be 7.00 in a month. Pastures turn to mud with all the rain and all you can do is feed hay. Fewer acres of hay put up each year and demand seems to stay high, lots of hobby farms and horses.

They might as well be honest though. No sense somebody bringing in junk hay thinking they're gonna make a fortune. No point having somebody say "I was at that sale,I saw some sell cheaper than that!" either.

West of albany...market has been good
First cut - $3.25-3.50. @ barn
Second cut - $4.50-4.75 @ barn
Turning new customers away left and right...all sales have been local too,

Central Pa. Alfalfa hay is always in demand with the dairys. I sell grass hay rounds. Moderate demand. I dont lower my price so it is what it is. Season was good for hay so not as much demand from farmers that produce hay themselves, my demand comes from hobby folks that dont produce hay. They buy hay every year whether it was a good year or a bad.

NW Or also and have been selling my grass 1st cut @$7.00 per bale @60 lbs 2nd cut $15.00 @ 89lbs and sold all of the 2nd. Alfalfa @ 105 lbs $25.00 per bale. Gotta love them "Horse" people.

I've sent out three semi loads so far - one to go. Forty five pound bales - $3 a bale, first cut grass hay - I'm in central NY. The buyer hauls it to Massachusetts.
I thought there was plenty of hay around, but one of my buddy's buyers is having trouble finding it.

Agreed....I figured the supply would be good this year (albany area) and from what I can tell, based on comments from buyers and new buyers..this area is in fairly short supply this year...

Never noticed they had small squares listed in the report.
