Ot gummed fuel tank

I think he is talking about e-85 gasohol. It works as a strong solvent and is cheaper in volume than other things that will cut the varnish/dirt out of a fuel tank. You can buy 5 gallons for way less than some commercial cleaner.

I also have used muriatic acid to clean varnished tanks. Just be careful with it. I usually mix one gallons of it with two gallons of water to really clean a tank spotless inside. Do not get it on any paint you want in good shape it will react with it FAST in this strong of a mix.

I use t-100 thinner that you get at an automotive paint supply. Get the cheapest grade you can. I soak carbs in it and use it as a parts cleaner. Also, lacquer thinner works good.

I'd do the same thing I do to a gummed up metal tank. I have an older bucket of carb. dip cleaner I dump in the tank and let it set and move it to different positions so as to soak all sides. The type of plastic used for a gas tank should not be bothered by the carb. cleaner.

I have used MEK from the paint department. The poly tanks will not disolve. It works pretty quick. Watch out if there are fuel sensors or such.
