501c3 Organization

I need advice.
Beginning this year, I would like to donate more food that I grow on the farm to charity. I do not know if the farm needs to be a 501c3 recognized organization, or if I just need to donate to organizations that are 501c3 recognized? Where to begin?

For a tax exemption I think you would have to donate to a 501c3 but you would not have to be one yourself. If taxes are not an issue you can give anything to anybody as far as I know.

Check with the director of your local non-profit community assistance organization. They will know all the legalities and the needs of the community.

You will be blessed by your efforts! Thank you!

A 501c3 organization is a tax exempt organization that does not pay taxes on it's income--that's all. If you donate to a 501c3 then you can deduct the fair value of your donation from you income taxes. If you donate to a group that is not a 501c3 then you can not deduct your donation on your taxes. You will need a receipt from them for your donation--don't forget that. :)

You do not need to be a 501c3.
