Oops, I thought I had done that before.

This computer has been running non stop for 7 years.
Lately It's been making a vibrating sound and getting noisy.
So today I figured I would open the case and blow the dust out of it.
Oops.
The case still had the factory seal on it and had never been opened.
Both fans were completely clogged with dust and the inside had a big layer of dust everywhere.
I guess I've never cleaned this one.
I took it outside for 5 minutes with a blow gun and 30 psi air.
Good thing it's not a tractor as I was still running on the break-in oil. Would have thrown a rod for lack of maintenance.
Have you guys blown the dust out of your computers lately?
Mine's sure a lot quieter now.

More than a regular function, mine is up on the desk, not the floor and it still loads up over time. Use care with static and the fan, you may be able to look at the boards and check for actual problems, I had one that ran for years, and the capacitors were starting to fail.

I take my desktop outside twice a year, open the cover and blow it out. Easy around the fans and the dvd or cd drive. It's amazing how much stuff attracts to electronics. Sits on a block under my desk near the floor. Gathers more than on the desk but then I have no room left.

This one is due for it.
One time I peeled a layer of dust off of a processor heat sink that was as thick as a scotch bright pad.

All things with cooling fans move air through them.
Dust along with it.
I have used the same laptop for 6+ years now and I can feel it
when it starts getting warmer than it used to, so I clean it.
Not quite as easy as blowing out a tower type computer though!

I've kept mine vacuumed out and cleaned the things weekly and they still die on me. I think computers just hate me. 7 years with no cleaning? That's got to be some sort of record.

Running non stop for 7 years. How do you manage to get that long without a power stoppage? I have to as well os power outages turn of power to work on things ocausionaly. These both would keep one from running for 7 years. Lucky if don't have a power stoppage at least every 2 months.
