Dumb Question on Foriegn made tractor?

I know where ther is a 4wd compact diesel tractor setting in a barn. I was helping a guy get a car out and saw the tractor. The owner said that it has not run in years. I can not remeber what manufacturer it is. I know it is probably from the late 70's to mid 80's and is white in body color and maybe a blue or black frame. Does anyone know what it is. Sinha??? or something like that. It may have a mitsubishi engine? Does this help? Probably not! Sorry for the lack of details.

If it's the same model, I'd pay a premium for it.

There was one for sale in our local CL that looked kind of like that. All white with a blue frame and wheels, and a few black accents. It was a Mitsubishi tractor and engine. Had a tiny little front loader on it, 4wd I think? Looked like it was just a little larger than a lawn mower.. Would love to have one that small for toodeling around in the garden!

There where a lot of Satoh compacts around here. There where names for models. IRC they where Buck and Bull, maybe others too. Here is a picture of one of the newer models.

Shibaura, maybe? They made tractors for Ford/New Holland for a number of years, but the ones I've seen are red.

There was also a Chinese or eastern Euro made one that a local guy had with a similar name and blue in color... piece of junk, very crude. He tried to sell it off his place for about a year then consigned it to a local farm auction, got something under $2K for it, it did start and run and had decent tires.

You don't figure that's a selfie of me?

I already paid a premium for the driver, a long time ago. Notice anything else odd in the photo? Not the missing doors, the color of the refrigerator. I offered to buy whatever color she wanted. She claimed her only choices were Caterpillar yellow and Oldsmobile blue, that I had on hand.

Hey, it was "avocado green" before. Anything would have been an improvement. When you need a refrigerator and someone offers you a free one...

Looks pretty close. Maybe a little larger, but hard to tell down in the bottom of the barn. What might something like that be worth, not running now but ownwer saying it did run.

Was salesman and parts man at MF Dealer 1967-1973. We also sold Satoh. The S650G was the model then and it was white sheet metal with dark brown chassis. Some used ones for sale at www.tractorhouse.com if you want to see a picture.

My interest is a parts tractor. I'm sure you know there's a substantial difference, running or not. "Was" doesn't mean much. Somebody parked it for a reason.

These are orphans, I presume you know. And the folks who still import some parts can't get many.

Depending on where it is, worth maybe $2000 to me. Does need to be an MT 250D. A 300D is slightly larger and I'd take a risk with one. More details would of course help, as would photos. Particularly of the front axle.

Mine was over-worked, abused, and it shows.

What was your interest?

I saw that tractor. 2WD and running $2500. There is one just like it about 2hrs from me on craigslist. Says it has a blown head gasket. Make an offer or trade for a wood splitter. So I think $600 should buy it. I know that this 4wd has not moved in at least 5 years (Probably more). I figured the cost of 4wd and not running would equal it out. I have been looking for a tractor in $2000 price range with live pto or slow ground speed to make up for the lack of live power. These old "Mitsubishi Powered" machines look like they may fit the bill. 25hp in Diesel would have to be close to 35hp in gasoline. I know HP is HP, but figuring torque in

Thanks for the thought Doc. Afraid that's a completely different tractor. I like what I have, but it has a couple of issues.

Spoke with my machinist recently about his promise to manufacture a part for me. I've been waiting for more than 2 years. Retired guy, doesn't move very fast these days. I did see that he cleared a path to his milling machine, a good start toward actually using it. We stopped trading money years ago, and now he wants me to do more things for him. He doesn't know an amp from a volt, I'm important.

This is why I said I'd pay premium for the right tractor. From the looks of that photo, Ray might have something else I'd want though. I've been idly looking at larger tractors. Anything 2WD I have no use. Mountain here, my driveway rises 400' elevation.

A compact was wrong for me, but I didn't know any better. I've progressed to 24,000 lbs of tractor that suits me perfectly. But I still need a smallish one occasionally. BTW, there's a guy near me with the same model Cat who's only asking $5500. Don't have any need for a second one, but it's tempting.

Teched, if it's like mine and you decide to get it going, feel free to ask questions. I've got a repair manual (covering all MT models) and a lot of experience. OTOH, you might be able to take a profit from me and enlarge your tractor budget to buy something you know will work.

I know that the tractor I saw in the barn was a 4wd. I don't need 4wd and would be OK with that MT25D. Does that have live power? The one on local craigslist was a Sintoh g650 with a blown head gasket. Said make an offer or trade for wood splitter.

Are you sure that the 2wd in the pictures is a MT25D? I looked it up and the tractors shown do not look anything like that one. That reminds of an 8n or Ferguson. The Mitsubishi tractors I see on the web are more boxy. Probably right on finding parts. Would be a major PIA. I will try to post the picts of the one on craigslist.

This is the one on Craigslist with blown head gasket and would trade for wood splitter or make cash offer.

"D" in my series means front drive also. MT 250 would be 2 WD. I too would recommend other than an old Mitsubishi, though Satohs are far more plentiful.

I've never seen a 25D. I'm guessing it's older, or never imported except maybe gray market like the newer Mitsubishis.

Don't know if it's important to you, but I recently learned that newer small tractors no longer have 2 speed PTOs. I like the choice even though I only have 2 infrequent uses for PTO.

You don't recommend due to lack of parts?

That's right. I like my 250D, or I wouldn't be interested in a parts tractor. Engines are fine, it's the rest of the tractor that can be problematic. Would be very helpful to know why that one was parked so many years ago, but I'd be skeptical of whatever the seller claims, if it "was running".

Mitsubishi dealers, like who sold my tractor new, never sold enough to stay in business. Remains a problem for current owners like me.

There may be better support for the newer gray market Mitsubishis, I have no experience with them. Imported, I think, from VietNam and advertised as "reconditioned". The one dealer near me that was doing that no longer is. Said they would get me a headlamp for my 250D, but far as I could tell never bothered to order it. Told me for 4 months "hasn't come in yet". NOT a place I would ever buy a tractor.

Sleazeball dealers you can do without. This one changes what they offer ever couple of years. Need a part for what they sold you before the change? Too bad.

Satoh owners don't seem to have these problems. If you want to stay real low cost. I don't know how much they work their tractors, or for that matter, how much you will.

I bumped into a gas standard tractor (2 WD) for my machinist. Ran great, decent rubber, $600. He wasn't looking for a tractor, but at that price... A better choice for you, no?

I would be fine with 2wd. But 4wd would be better.

Of course. Let me know if the tractor you found has any future with me please.

Good luck with your search.
