Pacemaker Tuesday, what to expect??

Doctors put it all together last week, why I was dizzy and short of breath. Heart rate tonight is 42. Stress test in Nov, was OK, things have changed since then. Pacemaker to be installed Tuesday.

Spent today trying to catchup on my welding jobs as I understand welding will be a NO NO. and also no MRI,s.
Doctor says activities will be restricted for 6 weeks .
I really have no choice about this but I am wondering what changes this will make in my future activities.

Thank you
Robert in Md.

I will need one in the future and am already worried about the welding aspect and don't completemy understand. I will be anxious to hear your recovery process and the learning curve.

I'm sure you'll be fine. Maybe some restrictions but you can find a work-around.

On a side note (not trying to scare you or be disrespectful to my mom), my mother had a pacemaker/defibrillator installed in ~2009.

Anyway, while we were in her room, she let out this gawd awful scream and continued doing this for every few times.

Wound up being that one of the leads of the newly installed pacemaker/defibrillator that monitored the heartbeat had slipped out of the heart. Therefore, triggering a false reading of the heart stopping. Thus, the pacemaker/defibrillator applied the current to restart her heart.

She said that all she saw was a big flash of white light when that thing went off.

88 year old neighbor has had one for a year. He is 200% more active. He is a much happier person and looks forward to every day. Fishing and gardening are special to him, and he was just without energy to do them. Now it is unbelievable (his words) Jim

My dad had one put in last year he is 85. Had went to doctor for pain in his left shoulder. 10 hours later he had a pacemaker. Only half of his heart was working and out of timing. Says he has more pep in his step. Doctor says its not the fountain of youth he is still 85. Yes he had lifting restrictions for a while afterwards. This was to give leads in his heart time to heal or they might pull out. As far as welding he hasn't tried that. Really hasn't changed much else that he normally does. He has a monitor by his bed that the doctor reads information on the performance of the pacemaker. If there is any issues doctor can get my dad in to see him. He is working on restoring tractors almost everyday so he is pretty active has not had any problems. They give you a book on something's to avoid. Some of them he has done with no problems. We have a friend that has one and he stated that you will feel it if you are interfering with the pacemaker knocks the timing off of your heart.

have had for 20 years. On number 3 watch DC current alternators and dc welding. I have seat belt wavier as shoulder belt would hurt wires. Just be senseable and u will be find communicate with your doctor.

Worked with a guy that said the only thing he ever noticed was that chain saw and weedeater would mess with it then said he never liked running a weed eater anyhow

Had a dual pacemaker put in, in 2012. Before I had it my heart rate was 35-40, no energy at all, just wanted to sleep all the time. (50 years old) Now I am able to function like I did before I started going down hill. Operate chainsaws, weedeater, even been shocked by electric fence at barn. Still was ok. Doctor told me as long as you don't spend extended period of time and don't over do it you will be fine. Now the next one I get will be a defib one and I will have to change my ways then. Also have a bedside monitor, he can watch. Just will have a few days where you can't lift your arm above your head till leads heal, otherwise I go about my daily duties without even thinking about it.

Thanks guys for all the comments, tomorrow is the day. Finished all my welding jobs yesterday.
Hope to get flue for my new shop heater installed
today while I can reach up over my head.

Thanks Guys

Robert
