Ferguson tractor

Ok also I have a rattle in the engine an example of the sound is when you step on the gas pedal of a car and the RPMs are at 5000-6000 at any speed that is how it sounds I am curious if i will damage it by running it.

The engine is governed at 2000 from the factory.

Depending on the noise you hear, it could be as simple as needing the lifters adjusted to serious as bearing failure.

I would want to know what the noise was before continuing to run it, at any speed!

A good test is to pull plug wires one at a time, see if the noise changes. If it changes, the problem is in the bottom end, bearings, wrist pin, piston.

If the sound remains the same it's top end, valve trane. Valve noise can also be serious, a dropped valve seat, broken spring, missing lash cap, can be a warning something really bad is about to happen.

Have you looked for the obvious, rattling water pump, generator bearings, fan hitting shroud?

If you have any sort of rattle/knock pull the oil pan and make sure you do not have a rod bearing going bad or you may end up needed a new engine.

Wait a sec old.Guy asks a question like that and you tell him to drop the pan and have a look around.Do you think he can handle that?

Can not say but at least I give him something to go on. Any rattle/knock should be looked it and not run till he knows for sure so either he does it or he has it done

Thank you for the advice. I'm 16 years old not sure i want to
dig in this engine too much i bought this tractor when I was 14
and ran it for 2 years at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle no higher.
