Sure Fire Tractor and Equipment Guarantee????

So you got that old tractor or baler or whatever. You fear a
breakdown when you need the equipment the most - so you
do one of two things, which guarantees a third.

You hide away enough $$$$'s to buy a new, like new or
another like tractor or implement - or you buy a second tractor
or back-up implement.

Your locked and loaded - READY for the sure fire breakdown,
but your ready!

And the original equipment, no matter how old, how ragged,
warn or tattered - it just keeps on tickin' like a Swiss watch.

Is it just me or is the above reality and a sure fire guarantee
you'll never have a crippling breakdown - LOL!!!!????

But if you didn't have a back-up machine or $$$$'s to buy one,
you'd loose your crop every time!

Just curious as your sure fire guarantee to keep you going in
2015!

2 or more ways to cut hay. 2 or more ways to rake said hay. Then 2 or more balers on hand to bale hay. Plus at least one tractor for each machine. Plus keep spare parts around for the common break down problems

Yep. Three mowers, three rakes, three square balers, one round. A dozen tractors and hay wagons. Two elevators. And still try to keep everything well maintained and ready to go. It doesn't guarantee against breakdowns but it keeps the hay moving when you have the weather.

I like this post as my wife can see no need for four combines,a dozen tractors and a whole fleet of extra equipment. I like to remind her she has more than one set of pots and pans. Tom

I had three Massey forklifts, a 204 and two 2200's I never had all three running at the same time but always had one. I seldom needed the two at the same time.

Yep: I can identify with all that. Dozen or so tractors, two balers, two rakes, two mowers, several corn trailers and hay wagons. Two sprayers, several plows and lots of other stuff in doubles. Keep it all well maintained and ready for the break down. I also hear it from the wife from time to time and she is reminded of the number of doubles and triples she has. I really should keep quiet to her since I've had her 49 years and she still ain't broke down. Even if she does I wouldn't consider another one.

Power was out for 4 or 5 days back around 2001 from a big ice storm. That left a pretty sour taste in my mouth. Bought an 8000 watt genny at auction the next summer. Big enough to run pretty much everything around here except the welder and air compressor.

Guess how many times the power has been out for more than a few minutes since then.. Best money I ever spent.

Not totally sure about that, but I bought a well used IH 456 4 row corn planter on an auction in '79. I had just graduated high school and needed something to get the corn in. I thought I would make it do until I could afford something better.
It ticked away planting 100 acres of corn per year until last year when I bought a nice used IH 950 narrow row. It sits out back of the machine shed. I don't have the heart to cut it up for scrap.
