Cylinder Wall Protection: The Head is Off

I'm just about ready to take the head off my TO-30. I want to have the valves checked and the head milled if necessary. While the head is off, do I need to do anything special to prevent rust in the cylinders? I have the tractor in my unheated garage.

Might not hurt to just wipe some clean grease on it. Wipe it off before you put it back together.

I my self use STP oil treatment. I have an engine here that has not had a head on it in 3-5 years and it has yet to rust any from sitting open. This engine was bored out 60 over and new pistons and rings installed then the boy ran out of $$ to finish it up so it just sits here

I used pb blaster on the cylinder walls last time wiped em down when i went back together I used paper towels to cover the top of the block

I would think any oil based product should do for coating. Be sure to cover it to keep dust and other things out. Use old blankets, rugs and sheets here as engine covers.

Remember, the sleeves are held down by the cylinder head. Don't want them to unseat from the block. A couple of bolts and flat washers will hold them down while the head is off.
