Us Americans have it so soft... many years ago cycling through France, my old buddy and I were horrified to find that many French toilets were a 4" diameter hole in a concrete floor. NOTHING ELSE!! And the really elegant ones had imprinted footprints. I'm SERIOUS!!! YOU try squatting down like that... go ahead, try it.

FBH44's post reminded me of when I was a late teen/early20, working at my dad's shop, there was a vacant lot on the corner of a side street and a state highway. There was a signal and crosswalk there.

There was an older lady that lived back in the neighborhood, I would see her walking back and forth across the highway several times a week. Not sure where she was from, evidently didn't speak English, I'm guessing Russian?, European?...

Anyway, was not uncommon to see her take a squat, hike up her many layered long dress, and do her business right there in the weeds on the vacant lot!
Probably perfectly acceptable wherever she was from! LOL

Must be a modern day rest stop - in the old days that would have been a little wooden building with one hole inside, maybe 2 holes if it was a busy rest stop. If it was supplied by the government there would have been a toll box on the door. LOL

When I worked in Las Vegas about 8 years ago I remember driving along I40 on either side of Amarillo and the rest areas did not have any kind of bathrooms. This was in the Texas panhandle. A trucker friend of mine said that at night the truckers just walked off a little ways and peed right there on the grass. I wonder why these rest areas had no toilets?

There are lots of them around in many states. Usually they were full rest stops that were closed to cut costs. They tear down the building, but leave the lots because truck parking is hard to come by.

Northern tool also had a video showing how to use that thing. I just had to watch it, it was funny it even had sound effects LOL.

When I was 8 or 10 years (a little over 55 years ago) old I walked up to my Uncle Edgar's place to help him move his outhouse. He already had a new hole dug, and he backed his old JD MT up to it and passed me the end of a chain to put around it. Just as I pulled the chain around the outhouse and he started to hitch it there was a banging on the door. Aunt Margie was in it!!!!! A few months later they decided to put in door plumbing in the house.
