Experience with a seed huller/scarifier??

Does anyone here have any experience with either a seed huller or scarifier or combination huller/scarifier? If so what brand and where did you find it?

I priced a new one from Foresbergs but the sticker shock was real, especially for the small amount of capacity it had to offer.

Anyone have one in their barn that they would like to trade for some cash?

sericea Lespedeza. I sent some to Foresbergs. Their #2 huller did a fantastic job but is overpriced to the point that it will take years to make it pay back and obviously it has very little market value if a guy ever wanted to sell it.

Sericea Lespediza?!?! That is a noxious weed here where I am and we are doing all we can to kill it out. MO DOT has spread it on highway right of ways and from there it has spread all over the country. It has NO nutrient value and is the only thing I have seen that will crowd out fescue.

It's an non-issue here. We don't have the drought laden climate that you guys in Western Mo and Kansas do. As for nutrient value... Only the universities in Kansas and Missouri are able to come up with the negative info on Sericea. Universities in Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi cant find all that bad stuff while testing. The proof is in the pudding. Animals do very well on the hay and it does a good job of preventing erosion on highly weathered soils that cant sustain anything else.

Goats love Sericea,do well off of it and it makes decent hay if cut early enough, anyway it can only compete with grasses if the land is very poor.Plus its a legume and it puts N back in the land.

The issue is that unless it is hulled or properly scarified, emergence is far from satisfactory regardless of the seeding method. We have had a terrible time with getting an adequate stand with any less than 4 times seeding rate due to the fact that so many seeds never emerge. We started with buying seed from "the guy down the road" which has not worked out very well because it has not been properly scarified. We only had a couple acres this fall suitable for harvesting. We will need all of the harvested seed to plant for ourselves. Perhaps next fall there will be additional seed supply for sale but not at this time.

If you view this forum in classic view, you should be able to send me an email. If you like you can send me an email and I'll tell you everything we have learned the hard way about growing sericea. Where are you located?
