Pre Cleaner Jar

Being new to the tractor game and starting the thinking of fixing up the old H that was my grandpas I thought parts would be good to ask for at Christmas.
I asked for a pre cleaner glass jar since the jar that is on it now is an empty mayonnaise jar. I saw the one for sale on this site and mentioned it to the wife and told her that is was a small jar with "ball special" on the side from what I had read. She went to the local dealer and they had to special order it since it wasn't what they normally carry. I picked it up this morning and got in the car to open the box.
It was a standard size regular old pint canning jar! Even had the metal lid and ring screwed on. That is pretty "special" since I can only get a dozen of those for $9 at the store and this one only cost $15 each. For a $15 pint jar it should at least have some shine in it.
I thought it was strange that the dealer was cheaper than those I saw online.
Couldn't help but laugh and I don't have the heart to tell her it isn't quite what I was looking for since she was so proud that she went to the dealer and ordered it!

Yep, that they are! I used to work at a place that had packaging equipment, used vacuum pumps to place the cartons in the machines. The vacuum pumps used Mason jars for the filter and muffler housings. Came from the factory that way.

I think my C has a wide mouth pint Ball jar. I
would measure the width and see what you can get at
the grocery store that has something that will fit.
BYW, Ball jars were made in Muncie, In. (Ball State
University).

I'm sure this one will "fit", I was just trying to get 1/2 way close to original with the jar that looks like a half pint and said Ball Special.
Didn't know the deal with Ball State. I've learned my one new thing for the day!

My sister got her PHd from Ball State. I had to
let my sister know I got my PHd after I retired.
Got it from TSC, a 9 and 12 inch Post Hole digger.

Wow,I just realized I have two PHD's then. One tractor mounted and one that I have to use by hand. lol

That's a good story! I'd use the jar she gave you with pride, even if it isn't quite the correct one.

And make sure you insert the mandatory miniature JD tractor before screwing it into the air cleaner. ;-)

Use it. Be honored that she supports your habit. Most
times when the jar was broken, someting else was
used, not the 'factory oem'.You jar is just right.

I have an original on a Super H that I have. It is made just like a regular mason jar only it is less than half the depth.

As far as what I can find they were org. Ball/Kerr jars. My M and 450 had Mason jars but could have been replaced at some time before we bought tractors. The A -340 take a differant size jar from what the H on up through 450 and some of the large IH crawlers.

I don't like this "rare" business, but I bet I have soemthing rare; my 1950 H came with a Ball Special wide mouth jar, and up inside was a rubber O-ring, what I take to be an original 1950 O-ring, and it reads "66776-D IHC United States America". I take it that was an IHC part number.

I was thinking that before i got to your reply.
" Look that old international got so much power
it sucked that green and yellow one right in"!

There was a color war going on at a local show
a few years ago. the IH guys did this and then
the green guys retaliated. It pretty near ended
up with the cops out there. Some of the 80 year
olds ,that should no better. Apparently had no
sense of humor and it got nasty!
Regards Robert

I'm going to use the jar since it has a story behind it. I'm lucky she gets why I wanted the old thing and doesn't say much when I spent money to get it back this summer.
Just hope I don't get too much guff from the "correct police" about the non oem equipment if I get it up and running well enough to join one of the tractor rides!
