Shipping How-to?

Can anyone give me a general overview of how shipping works with a reverse auction freight company or standard freight broker?

I have posted already to the hauling schedule, but am also wanting to check these other options. Not sure how they work. In this case it's only two tractor rear tires.

Thought originally I'd plan a trip from MN to CT to do some sightseeing and pick them up myself. Then, got busy so such a trip would be too far out for the seller.

Try YRC/Roadway LTL (less than truckload)

I shipped a motor from Fremont, In. to York, Pa. I made a small pallet fit the motor on it bolted it down good and then had my neighbor shrink wrap it. I took it to the trucking terminal they weighed it told me how much money they wanted then two days later the consignee emailed me that he picked it up at the York, Pa. terminal.

Sorry I do not know what a reverse auction freight company is. Money wise it helps if it can be delivered to the freight terminal at one end and picked up at their freight terminal at the other end.

It will be the least expensive if you can use this hauling schedule. If you can wait a bit. If you're in a hurry it will cost more to use either a broker or an LTL like Yellow or such.
For the broker you select one to use. Call them and tell them what it is, with dimensions and weight a time frame that is reasonable. They will give you a yes we can do this or no they can't they will also give you a rate for this trip. You will either be able to do COD or pay in advance. If you are dealing with reputable people it will happen without a hitch. If not then nightmares come to mind.
If you decide to use the hauling board here check out the feedback section before donating money to unuseful causes. DON"T send money in advance to an individual. If individuals ask for money in advance move on to the next guy. I never ask for funds in advance. I figure if they can afford the equipment they can afford the freight. I also figure I know where they live since I am usually delivering to their home place.
As for the reverse auction I never heard of that one.

the last ones I bought came FedEx, rolled them right out the back door of the truck. 11.5x38

I put shipping some tires from Seattle to L.A. ,up for bid on "Uship". There was no time issue and bids started at $1500 ,after 8 days it was down to $220 , but the tire dealer backed out . I'd try them again ....

I have used U-Ship several times and am very satisfied. They have a website that you can check out.
If you just want to haul the tires to a freight terminal of a carrier you can get good rates. I usually ask for Class 70 and shipping to a business. I have an unloading dock and have got farm tires the driver just rolls them out. So, on tires I can not see where it matters.
Also, have used freightcenter and freightquote with mixed results depending what your shipping,

What 504 said sounds too easy to think about anything else. I shipped a pair of orchard fenders UPS once. I just stuck the stickers on that they gave me.

Edit: (By "reverse auction"} I think he means a company like U-ship. Where the shipping providers bid lower than the previous bid to get the job. Opposite or reverse of a normal auction where you bid higher to buy the item.
