Bob Sportel was 24 years old in 1974 when he bought a 1957 1/2 ton Chevy truck for $75 to drive to work. He just retired after working 38 years. HE is still driving the same truck.

It is not restored. HE says he ahs used duct tape and bondo to hold some pieces together!!!

Sounds like my kind of fellow!!!
Truck bought for 75 dollars driven for 38 years.

yep, he's smarter than the truck nobody can shut him down, not like these computer vehicles that control you. good for him, roll of tape and wire and off to work we go.

I read an article a while back about an older gal who bought a new Rambler (I think it was). She put a lifetime muffler and battery in it from Sears back then. She is still driving it and just keeps taking it back for free replacements. They keep honoring it. Now that's service.

I like a guy like that, I sold my 90 GMC in June and bought a 2013 Chevy. Bought the old one at work when an old boy from Texas working in the area traded it in, had new Mich. tires, super comfortable after market seat, matching fiberglass topper, and new flowmaster exh. Looked like new inside and out, about 135,00 miles. Drove it 18 years but it was getting real rusty, needed tires and a radiator, neighbor offered me 600 bucks and owns it, A/C still works. Had 286000 miles on it.

(quoted from post at 16:20:18 01/04/15) Reminds me of Da Yoopers. Minnesooota isn't all that far from Michigan's UP:

They share a common border, well maybe not that common. Its in the middle of Lake Superior

I know a guy bought a new 1970 or so chevy truck when he was in the service and still drives it today his only truck, does his own work on it and it looks like new, of course he's repainted it and repaired it several times. Bought it in CO and has lived in NY most of the time.

We moved quite a few times for work. I used to buy used Econoline vans for $200 - $300, make the move and resell the van for what I paid for it. Had about 5 of those vans in the 70's; didn't keep them any longer than I had to.

I bought a 69 gmc in 1982. its not pretty. I have driven it to work since I got it. Other than Hydraulicing the engine causing a replacement, it just gets the normal maintenance. Its dirty, Its noisy, Its ugly. Suits me just fine.
