People make me so mad

As you may remember, I've decided to add a Japanese mini truck to the farm for chores. Specifically winter/rainy season chores! I have found a couple on CL that fit the deal but getting people to contact back is a pain! The first was email, text or call. I texted and promptly got it back stating it was a landline. I tried calling and got the "this number is no longer in service" business. I tried three times just to make sure I wasn't messing it up. So I emailed. 10 days ago. Twice. No response. It was literally within minutes of posting and needed engine work. It was not going to sell like hot cakes.

The second is the same deal - email only. I have gotten a response from him but it usually takes two or three days to get back to me with some answers.

I farm - I get it. You have 7 round bales to feed and need to run and chop ice at every pond. However, if I put something on CL I check it daily to see if I need to respond to something. If I feel like I "have someone on the line" I check it when I get a chance multiple times a day. I guess I was raised different.

I have found Craigslist to work well. I usually never have an issue contacting 80% of the people. The other 20% are a PAIN so I just forget them and move on.

For your little imported truck there are several nation wide dealers that have them reasonable. I see them selling locally for more money than the dealers sell good ones for. Just Google them and you should find them.

I looked into one 4-5 years ago. A neighbor bought one. I went and drove it. The darn things are just too small in the cab for me to fit comfortably. I really liked the idea of 4wd, a cab and a small pickup bed. I just wish they made them a little bigger.

I bought a well used Ranger 4wd pickup. It was a total rust bucket but ran well. I used it for several years and them the one nephew wanted it. So I sold it to him. He still does chores with it.

I did the same thing on a Ford pickup. I emailed the guy almost two weeks ago and never heard anything back. I figured if it was sold,he should have taken the ad down.

don't even bother if I can't call. Never have received an answer back to an email so I no longer try.

You need to let people be who they want to be and NOT think that everyone should be like you. You might be a great guy but that is who you are and not who they are.

Maybe they had a death in the family??????

I posted a car for sale. After a few replies by one person, I was able to figure out that I was being played. OH well.
That is not a reflection on me, but on them and if I am to be allowed to be me, then I should allow them to be who they chose to be.

Try not to be judgmental, and what others do will not make you as unhappy.

The one time I did the contact by email thing on CL was when I was looking for a cab for my Farmall 1206 (keeping it tractor related). Price was right and I found it within a few minutes of it being posted. I emailed the seller with my phone number. Within an hour of sending my # I was standing in the guys yard looking at it. He isn't computer literate and his daughter, home on leave from the Army had posted the ad for him. Funny thing is I knew the guy. My 2nd daughter and his graduated high school together!

Be patient, many people use Craig's List like an online garage sale. They dispose of things they no longer want at very low prices, but you have to work with them at their convenience. For top notch service go to a dealer and pay dealer prices.

Over the years, I've bought and sold all sorts of stuff. Some was sitting in my front yard with a sign on it. Some was in someone elses yard. A few times I listed stuff in newspaper classifieds. Then I've bought and sold with internet classifieds, on here, on Craigslist, and on a Facebook "yard sale" page we have in our immediate area.

Long story short, I've had some deals that went like clockwork. Some were like pulling teeth. Some buyers/sellers act like they couldn't possibly care any less. Some are "Johnny on the spot". You get all kinds....I can't say one method of buying/selling is any more (or less) foolproof than any other. No more scams with one sales method than another. No more (or less) numbskulls to deal with than with another. You'll hear all sorts of deals, promises, and ways of doing things.

Like my dad used to say...."Until it's in the frying pan, it's just a fish story".

You might want to think about a JD Gator or something similar to do those chores on rainy days.

I like the ones that advertise something for sale and are never home to answer the phone, even after trying all hours of the day!

I deal with all types on craigslist. I sell hay, other random stuff, and also buy stuff.

I prefer that not everyone has my number so I don't put it on Craigslist. After the first email I give them my number so they can call if they'd prefer. Email goes to my phone so it still gets to me just as fast as a text or a phone call. Emails and Text I can reply to when I have a chance while at work, where as I probably won't be able to answer my phone when someone decides to call me.

Sometimes if the person interested in my goods asks a rediculous question right off the bat I won't even respond, depending on my mood. Sometimes they just misread something or misinterpreted my ad. Sometimes they don't have a brain in their head...

Why bother yourself with being mad about not getting the response that you think that you should??
I have done a significant amount of buying and selling on Craigslist, and have been mostly successful. Most of the time, you can tell if a person is legit or just a tire kicker. Whenever one puts $1 in the ad heading, I automatically consider it a bum ad. Nobody is selling their high value item for a DOLLAR.
I generally send a polite email and give my cell phone number. If they are interested, and the item is still available, we make contact, and the deal is generally made. I also NEVER answer an ad that contains certain phrases like "no spammers" or "no scammers." The scammers ands spammers are already violating the rules. A feeble warning in a CL ad is not going to alter of otherwise affect their bad behavior.

As far as "protecting" one's phone number, I ask WHY??? I could care less who knows my phone numbers. My land line number is listed in the local directory. I give my cell number to anybody that wants it. I still do some things the old fashioned way - that is - if I don't want to talk to a person, I say so politely, and then hang up. Pestering me repeatedly will get your number blocked. Even the telemarketers will leave you alone once they figure out that you are not buying.

I do the same thing. First screen with email. Then screen with phone call. Then give out details and address.
I love the craiglist guys who right off the bat email you with "whats your address so I can come look at it".
I dont think so. I dont need anyone and everyone showing up at the farm any time they please.

I haven't got an email from a computer off craigslist in a year. It's all smart phones anymore, and they use weird spelling like there texting. The tractor pictures they send are upside down and so small you can't tell anything. Most of the ones I get start with "what's your best price"
I delete them.If your not asking one question about the tractor,i'm not giving you a best price.

We had one small car lot put up my wife's cell phone number, with NO other way of contacting him! He had posted a vague idea of location, so after several upset phone calls, I drove around till I found him-gave him a piece of my mind! He had one digit off-what a duffus!

Those are fighting words. I've got an 825i that I spend more time working on than using. I just put $1000 into the fuel system to get it back on the road. And that's with me doing the work. That thing worked well for the first 6 months of its life. It should have the lemon law applied to it.

Same problem with eBay. You can contact a seller and ask four questions and get an answer for one or two.
I have bought a lot of items off eBay and discovered long ago, they just want to get the money and ship when they get around to it.
Bought a chainsaw Dec 24 and it is supposed to arrive Jan 7. Shipping from NJ to Alabama.
I have five items for sale on CL and nearly every day, I get a cash offer!
Last Monday, I got a cash offer of $100.00 for a chainsaw priced at $130.00. I asked him if he was making an offer "sight unseen", and he said he had seen the pictures.
I told him he could meet me at a local restaurant, give me $100.00 and we would part ways.
He wasn't interested then?
