OT Proud of a project

A large national refrigerator company is putting a lot of money into the local manufacturing plant. They have pulled production back from Mexico and expanding here.

We are programming the new production lines.

The plant gets the steel in as rolls along with the components. The steel gets formed into cases, foam is injected and all components are installed. The refrigerators are actually run and the on board computer is hooked up to a diagnostics box and tested.

I am proud to see work being done in US.

Hopefully more will do that! Our government sure doesn't seem to care, can I ask what company so the next refrig. I need can be theirs?

Nice to see manufacturing coming back to USA. What company so all may know what to buy?

I cannot tell you the company, but will say that Whirlpool, Maytag, Amana, Kitchen Aide and Jenn Aire refrigerators are all built in the same plant.

I wonder if that roll steel is made in the states. There are some newer mini-steel mills in the US now.

David, I also would like Brand name so I can support this company if I need new Frig' .

Made in USA very important to me. May sound petty but I bought some of the new fangled LED light bulbs at "Batteries + Bulbs". Of course made in China which I thought what choice do I have. Stopped at Home Depot and they had same type of bulb and made in North Carolina. Bought them and returned the first ones. Oh, and another plus, they were also cheaper. Don't tell Home Depot but I would have still bought theirs even if they were higher.

David gave the name away when he said in Iowa near ...Amana...wink wink. Wife grew up in Amana and I grew up about 15 miles north of there just outside of Cedar Rapids.

Several companies are moving back. Higher wages overseas; a 6 week transit time and cost from overseas; and low natural gas price in the states have all been given as reasons for the move.

Apple has said they will move some phone production back to the states; and GE Appliances has a place in Louisville, Ky.

The real challenge now will be getting the general public to understand that the product is made in the USA and to give a little extra preference to them;
AND finding enough skilled labor to work in the plants.

Are they building any of the compressors in the U.S. or just the refrigerator shells?

Lawyers will be glad to hear that. They can now sue an American company for product liability issues when some nitwith gets his finger caught in the fridge door.

Canada lost a major fridge/freezer plant a couple of years ago, they built for most of the brands too. Pain now as they stopped small parts too.

I just bought repair parts for my Maytag ref. and the gal on the phone said that Whirlpool was making my brand and a lot of others. She was located somewhere up in the mid west, forgot where but it doesn't matter, it's here.

Great.

Added thought. Surely most of you remember why Henry Ford paid his workers a stellar $5 per day to build his Tees. If you forgot it was so that they had enough money to live AND buy one of his vehicles. Obviously the employment office had a line a mile long. Others had to follow suit. I read his book, the one with the picture of the blue 49 Ford on the cover. Made some interesting reading. He was an interesting person.....will leave it at that.
