Seen this in the local paper today in a dealer advertisement, a Toyota dealer of all things, don't know how much they are asking. 1951 restored.

302? 302 Ford or 302 Chevrolet? For the sake of your soul I hope you didn't drop a Ford engine in a Chevrolet....

fyi, gmc engines in early 50's were 248 cid, 302 cid, and others I don,t remember. the military used a lot of 302's in 2-1/2 ton trucks with automatic trans. also armored personel carriers used 2 of these big 6 cyl. engines during the Korean to Vietnam time frame

Deuce and a half started out with REO 331 and 5 speeds, not until recently the deuce and a half was upgraded to the M35 with a turbo diesel and auto trans. All my years working on them, never seen a 302 or auto trans.

Chevy made a 302 for a number of years by putting a 283 crank into a 327 block. This results in 301.44 cubic inches, but Chevy called it a 302. The stock 327 block is 1/8" larger bore than a 283.

And contrary to what VTJoe said, a 283 block would need to be bored .125 to result in 301.44 cubic Inches.

Chevy also did the opposite for several years making a 307 by putting a 327 crank in a 283 block. These were mostly used in late 1970's pickups.

Why not? I'd do it in a heart beat  . Or better yet get a Cuda and drop a big block ford in it   !

kyle, you are to new, national guard in mid 60,s, the one I was assigned to drive was a 1952 if I remember right don't remember model maybe m-135 also had later reo as fire truck when I was on volunteer dept. I believe it was a 1958 model

the gmc deuces were m135 with "super singles" and m211 with duals. yes, the 302 six with a hydramatic.

and yes, the m35s and variants used the oe-331 and later the various iterations of the multifuel.

not sure if the gmc deuces were made before the others or concurrently.

Beautiful old pickup!

And somehow, the motorcycle reflected in the door looks really neat too.

(quoted from post at 16:33:18 01/03/15) I'd love to put a Ford in split window Vette!!!!!!!!!.Like they say LIKE A ROCK WITH A FORD BLOCK. Chuck
like that.I seen a 68 ss camaro with a twin turbo 302 ford awesome!

That is a sharp truck. That black is a striking look. Can you see driving that around?? You would have to shine it more than drive it. LOL.

Thanks for posting this picture Moline_guy

GMC also made one TOUGH V-6 in the early '60's. B-I-L had a '62 w/305, 4WD that would lug at 1,000 RPM forever! Unfortunately, it got about 10 MPG no matter how you worked it. However, the 4:56 gears it had might have been the reason for both of the above. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

My 1970 GMC half ton had the 307 and automatic. Had different intake and carb system that at one time could not get parts for. Current owner traced to orignal carb to being a Dodge carb.
