Tire question

I own a John Deere 510,amassed Ferguson 35 gas,and a International Super C.

Differing sizes of tire that can fit the same rim can apply to tractors but may question is a car question.Wondering if anyone on this form can shed a little light on it for me.I realize this is not the usual type of question asked here.but I am in need of a bit of advice on this matter. I have an opportunity to purchase four winter tires at pretty good price I believe but the size for my car is just a bit off. Will they still work

My Toyota matrix has tires P205 55R 16

My question will 205/60R16 sized tires fit and work ok? and if so
What is the difference?

Sure it will work, the sidewall will be a little taller, therfore your indicated speed will be off some. Probly not alot, you might be going 56 or 57 when your spedometer says 55. Be warned though, some places wont put any other size on a car than what the door sticker says. I had that happen once, had a taurus that was specd for a "75" profile tire and there was a set of "70"s on sale. They told me they wouldnt mount the slightly diffrent tires AFTER the car was in the air with all 4 tires off... I made them put the old tires back on and i went elsewhere. Now when i go to get tires, i drop off the wheels and pick them up later. Alot less hassle and i dont have to wait around. They dont even ask what car they go on.

Thank you fellas,I have found over the years that I have been lurking and asking questions on this forum.
Folks here are very eager to offer advice and I do appreciate your answers here albeit a bit off the tractor subject.
Thank You
Happy New Year to everyone!

You should be ok. The studded snow tires on my Camry are a size larger and it makes the speedometer read right...it reads fast with the stock size. (Checked with GPS). I remember all my Jap bikes said I was going faster than I actually was...maybe Jap cars are the same?

Work? Maybe. I had my HHR in for new tires. I went and looked with the tire salesman at the tires I wanted. They changed them, I paid and went out and drove off. Right when I went into the street there was a terrible noise. I turned around and went back, looked and the tires were one size bigger. They hit on the suspension when the wheels were turned sharp. There excuse was they sent "the kid" to get them and he grabbed the wrong size. They had to dismount, remount and balance new tires. SO, no one size bigger didn't work....James

I hope you never have to use chains....
I wonder how people use chains on them out here? I think they went more than one size up....

Ron some of the clearances on the smaller cars will not allow you to go any larger. You will actually have to mount them and drive. I would never recommend you do it nor would I do it myself.

The last set of new tires I put on my 88 F150 rubbed on the frame and the only difference was that they were a true truck tire with a slightly more knobby and square tread. Same 235 75 15, just different profile. Easy answer was to not turn so short. If I did, wasn't really a big deal as it wasn't too bad, but enough to notice.
