New Holland and Mahindra

I know this has been discussed a little before on here.

My NH dealer picked up the Mahindra line of tractors earlier this year. To me it seems the compact NH lineup has been hit and miss for a few years.

Does NH plan on exiting small tractors all together? It doesn't seem like NH would be happy having a dealer add direct competition to its small tractors.

FWIW. This NH dealer has bailed me out of more problems over the years with parts/service/afterhours, you name it. Just a great dealer. So I hope they still around a while. 3 generations and they know Ford/NH inside and out.

The other local NH dealer has carried Kubota for the last 20 years. So maybe its not a big deal.

NH is not dropping it's compact line, but they did drop their sub-compact line, those little TZ tractors.

I can tell you that things are getting ridiculous with tractor prices, so maybe he is loosing market to the cheaper brands. I priced a new 7 foot sickle mower and they are up to $8100 with freight and set-up.

That's getting a bit stupid if you ask me.

Our local Ford/NewHolland dealer(Western Implement)Sells orange Kubotas right beside the blue F/NH.They seem to sell more orange than blue

If the Government can keep the economy intact I see a huge demand for compacts and sub-compacts in the next few years. There would be plenty demand for multiple lines. (and if things go to heck it won't matter anyway)

Our NH also has Kubota. Funny thing is, there are a LOT of orange tractors for sale on the lot, and very few NH's, seems like you have to order one if you want one...

They have another name brand there too... Just can't remember what it is... Implement based. I think it might be Land Pride?

Probably your NH dealer can sell Mahindra for less because his factory invoice is less. My understanding is that dealers that carry both NH and Kubota often sell quite a bit more Kubota because the dealer cost is less. I remember back before the 1980's mergers that dealers who carried both NH and Gehl often made the sale based on the lower factory invoice. Which is to say one month they might be pushing a Gehl grinder mixer and maybe a few months later they are pushing a NH. I remember both IH and Deere salesmen say that their dealer often picked up a sideline not because the major did not offer a given product but the shortliner allowed a given dealer to be more competitive on price.

I was told that one reason our NH dealer took on Mahindra was that A lot of customers wanted a cab and NH didn't offer a cab on some models but Mahindra did. Not sure if this is true or not.

New Holland changed its supplier for compacts a few years ago and shot themselves in the foot. The new Boomers built by TYM do not have supersteer and cabs on the smaller units. Also the service ability and operator comfort both went backwards. Another kick in the shorts for us dealers is they are only available by the container load of tractors, meaning that the dealer has to order them a container load at a time or order a container with a few other dealers. Its too bad it went that way. New Holland sold ALOT of TC30s.

We are also an AGCO dealer and when they dropped the orange tractors we had to switch to MF so we now offer the MF line of compacts. We are not a big compact mover but get a few sold a year, the MF line has been a great one and their quality has held up very well.

Mahindra is a good line also and is a fast grower in this country, they are currently selling more tractors worldwide than anyone else in the world.

I like my 1720.

The new similar compacts from NH don't seem as nice.....

My old slow NH dealer took on Kubota years ago. They've dropped NH now, just Kubota.

There are a lot of demands on dealerships by the big guns. I believe NH wanted the dealer to have a full combine support package around. Well you can't give a yellow combine away around here, no demand for support..... That was the beginning of the end as I heard it third hand.

My local NH dealer also has a Kubota franchise.

He sells many many many more Kubotas than New Hollands.

I've owned both (as well as other brands) and all tractors that I buy in the future will be Kubotas.

Our local New Holland dealer sells Mahindra too. Back in October I could have bought a new 5525 Mahindra, 55hp tractor, two wheel drive, for $13,700 delivered with a 5 year warranty. John Deere dealership offered me a new 2014 5055D, two wheel drive tractor delivered for $14,300 with a 2 year warranty.

You can take half that money and buy a JD 5210 2wd that is about the same horse power and a much better tractor. The quality is better than the JD 5055D or the Mahindra 5525. I have seen several sell with around 1500 hours for that $7-8K range.
