OT, A Christmas Miracle?

Was sitting down eating lunch yesterday, and the phone rang. Was an old friend of mine, hadn't seen him in quite a while, at least a few years.

He only lives a few miles away, but about 3 years ago he started playing football and going to public school, and pretty soon, he was too cool to be hanging out with me....

We took drivers ed together year before last, and we both got our drivers license the same day this past fall during the fair (odd coincidence).

We talked then at the fair one day, and he was driving a 1973 Ford Bronco, and it was in okay shape, but didn't seem great to me, BUT, he loved the car!

Anyway, back to the phone call. It was him, and he sounded different that I remembered, but I couldn't figure out why. He told me that on this last Monday he slid, and then rolled the Ford off the road and down a ravine 4 times. His lap belt kept his butt in the car, but by the second roll (he thinks) his chest and face was out the left hand window.

They air lifted him 2 hours away to what we all call the "Big Hospital" and on the plane ride there, he was told to say his good byes to the men in the cabin with him, because he wasn't going to make it.

Well he did make it,

186 stitches in his face/head
A crushed left arm and leg
And a broken femur...

He has been in the ICU since them, and was able to come home yesterday afternoon, so at least he is home for Christmas. Even thought we aren't really friends anymore, for about 5 years of our life, we did everything together every day, and it brought tears to my eyes knowing that he almost didn't make it...

Maybe if you have the extra time, he could be in you prayers today. Sorry this has been kind of long, but as we all say, be careful...

Merry Christmas to you all! Bryce

Sounds like he still feels close to you or he would not have called! I hope you can take some time to go see him, it would probably mean a lot to him and the best Christmas gift he ever received.
Prayers being sent! Please tell him we're all wishing him the best this Christmas!
Sometimes it only takes words to turn an ill person well.

Your visit will mean more to him than you realize. This very same thing happened to me over 20 years ago when an estranged friend got in a bad truck wreck and wanted to talk to me while he was recovering.

He was very lucky. One thing I have learned over the years is to drive safely no matter where you are going. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Bryce, HOPE AND PRAY HE MAKES A FULL RECOVERY.

It is your call but a visit may be in order. Might rekindle an old friendship.

Keep us posted on his progress.

Bill

All the comments thus far are great and the advice is great too. Traumatic events have a way of opening our eyes to past errors. He seems to be reaching out to you. You didn't mention his spiritual condition, but you asked for prayers so I assume you know the Lord. Perhaps He wants you to share Christ with him.

We have been e-mailing all day, and I am going to go over tomorrow sometime (we think).

Says that his drugs have been toned down a little, and everything is kind of hurting, but he feels much better...

Says that he is going to try walking tomorrow, wouldn't surprise me if he was playing soccer by Monday...

This kid is the definition of "Tuff Stuff". He has suffered many football injuries, and has been in a few fights, and let me tell you what, he bounces back up for another round MUCH faster than I would!!!

I know that I am built pretty good, but this dude is a freakin animal... Guess that ain't a bad thing huh?? :)

On another note, I haven't really talked about my religion here before, and just so you all know, I don't really have one. We as a family don't go to church, and have never chose "one" faith. We kind of have a mix of stuff we do, and we do it on our own. He however is a Christian boy, and their family believes in the power of prayer (I do too) and I knew that he would REALLY appreciate knowing that all of you kind hearted people were thinking of him, and I do too.

Thanks all for your support! Hope you all had a good X-mas.... Bryce
