Don't get a farmer mad at you

Earlier this morning I was reading Google news and some of the
side notes. Amusing article surfaced:

Seems a middle aged farmer in Vermont got "busted" by a
deputy sheriff for smoking pot. His Case/IH tractor is
conventional with 8 wheel drive duals; huge! Exhaust pipe
appears to be the size of a grapefruit to help in sizing the thing.

He goes to the sheriff's office and drives over about half a dozen
squad cars, the popular 4 door Ford sedans. Crushes the roof
and hood on every one of them. Drives his tractor on off a
couple of miles and parks it. Then high tails it out of there on
foot. Must have been smoking some more pot.

One of the pictures showed a deputy standing next to a car and
an obvious grin on his face. I'd bet he was shaking his head too.

Made for a good laugh.

They caught him and are deciding on appropriate charges.
Course the residents may run him out of the county as they will
have to pay the bill and do without services in the interim.

I love the stories but those folks aren't thinking straight. Remember this one?

Back in my childhood a couple was divorcing and the husband didn't want the wife to get the house so he took a backhoe and destroyed it. I don't think he was charged because it was still his property. But I bet he then owed her money for her half.

Or this one.

I remember that, it was on the local news. Don't know the circumstances, it did not say the level of marijuana possession, which could have been an appearance ticket if it was not something substantial, given that, even if one was peeved, certainly makes no sense to do what he did, and your last statement regarding the town being without police services, you'd like to think someone could not be so selfish, all over something like marijuana possession ? I guess you get all kinds in this world, glad no one got hurt. Later article state they did not prosecute this person, insanity plea or status at the time. So maybe there's some underlying cause besides the weed, or he's a very convincing actor portraying insanity. The whole thing makes no sense, doing what he did, glass cab, surprised he was not taken out while doing this.

That guy had a real beef with the town, and as much as anyone could be as frustrated, to build out a track type tractor like he did, for the sole purpose of destruction and terror, one would think there has to be a better way. I'll bet many of us know about situations with local government where you would like to do something like that, but realize its as foolish as what they did to make a person upset. I guess there is a line between those who get angry and I'll ....... this or that, then realize, its not worth it, and those that obtain a large crawler and get busy in their shop for a month because they are actually going to do something like what this person did. He's dead, the town suffers a whole bunch of destruction and terror, what did it really accomplish? I'll show you........

A guy from our church caught his wife at a motel with another man and beat all of the windows and lights out of her car with a ball bat. Naturally someone called the cops. He laid his bat down and was peaceably handcuffed. Cops were lecturing him about beating up her car, and he told them it was HIS car. Produced the registration card as proof, wife's name was not on it, and they turned him loose. Wife never returned home.

Or a guy that owns an excavator for that matter!!

That would work I'm sure. There were rumors he was arme with a machine gun and nobody wants to risk their lives trying to approach the dozer un-protected. You also have to figure it might take a heavy piece of steel and a couple men to move and stick it in the tracks of a moving dozer being driven by someone who might be willing to kill you by moving the dozer or shooting from within it. He was clearly a bit crazy and it's hard to figure what the guy might do--for all they know he'd open some door and start shooting with a fully automatic rifle at them in a last blaze of glory as they approached.

Ha! What's this your son's truck. You told him to be home by
midnight and he didn't come home till the next morning. While he
was sleeping it off you fixed his wagon.

No idea when or where it was taken, I worked in the excavation business for a few years and got it in an email one time. It was titled "don't ever pi$$ off a guy that owns a backhoe"

On the one with the CaseIH from a couple of years ago wasn't his tractor. Was his parents tractor. From all accounts the guy was/is pretty worthless to start with. Didn't help on the farm much, history of minor trouble with the law, no steady long term employment. Guy belongs in a rubber room. Even though he wasn't prosecuted due to mental health issues that incident will hang around his neck for life.

The guy with the dozer went over the edge. He also killed himself after the radiator broke and the dozer over heated. As far as someone trying to stop him? While cops are supposed to put themselves in harms way as needed there is a point that goes too far. Once people were out of the way and all he was doing was destroying property there was nothing there worth a cop being injured or killed. At that point trying to jam the tracks would have been sheer stupidity. Buildings and items can be replaced. Someone's son, daughter, husband or father can't.

The guy will probably have to buy new cars. If he don't have the money the city may sell his tractor. In San Diego some years back, someone took a army tank and ran over a lot of cars, and anything else that got in his way. Nothing could stop him.He finally got hung up on a road divider, and the cops got the hatch open and shot him. It is on the internet somewhere. Stan

In the city I work in there have been reported more than just one time each year how they shoot each other over 'just' pot.
Around this house I have been told several times to "mind your own business" by the cops that the people next door called on me for being on my own land.

That wasn't the only time someone stole a tank. We had a US Army Staff Sgt steal one in Germany in the 80's. A combat loaded one. Seems he got a Dear John letter. He got drunk, decided that he was in Germany because of the Soviet Union and that if we just fought it out that after we won he could go home and save his marriage. He finally sobered up enough that he stopped and surrendered on a bridge over the Rhine. Must have thought he was superman. Was going to take a tank (M60A3), 63 rounds of main gun ammo and take on the Soviet Military all by himself and win. Without a firing pin. The firing pins were kept locked up in the Arms Room and were issued when needed. The one in CA was also a M60 series tank IIRC. Takes a lot to stop a 63 ton tank, 1970 CID 750 HP. But you can high center them! There was another one at Ft Riley in the late 70's. All the person did was start it up, knock down a fence and drove it into a pond. All you could see was the antennas sticking up out of the water.

Another guy in a divorce cut their house in half with a chain saw, then demolished his "half" with an excavator. Don't recall how that one came out.

More info on the armored dozer.
With all the talk of drones lately, it would be interesting if they opened it to find it was being remotely controlled via cellular link. :)

(quoted from post at 12:58:23 12/24/14) A local radio nutritionist says recreational marijuana use is more addictive and kills more brain cells than alcohol.

Bob, I've never heard that. They did have 3 Dr.'s claiming that eating meat was bad for you a couple of years back. They all had an agenda, animal rights kooks actually on PRTA's payroll. So a nutritionist making comments like that I would have problems believing. Especially when you have doctors who at least want to be able to prescribe it for medical reasons.

Ferd: It does? Heck there are doctors, lawyers and a lot of other people who use it from time to time that other than the very low risk of getting caught who are pretty intelligent and well educated. So if you are stating that as a fact I'd like to see proof. If it's your opinion then no argument. Now I have known people who use enough of it that they are in a stupor all of the time. My dislike of it stems from hunting. I don't drink and handle guns. I don't want to be around someone who has been smoking/ingesting who's going to be around guns.
