I am working on building a core of a 288 XP back up to a good saw to run with my other one, and am in need of a bunch of parts! If anyone out there has any or all of these that they would get rid of, e-mail me!

Would take new or used, if the price is OK!

Wrap Around Handle
Clutch
Sprocket
Pull rope cover
Muffler (would like new)
Bar Adjusting Screw (s)

Thanks! Bryce

Odd, You have "four husky dealers in your area that are always booming", now you can't find parts for your saw. Wow!

They are, but if I buy everything I need new for this saw, I had might as well just go buy a new saw!! Most of these things are over $50 from the dealer, and I don't need new on the plastic covers or anything....

Ebay and seems one part came up on Bailey's, the bar adjustment screw, seems you should be able to source what you need between either of these, though hard to say, the screw was a $2 or $3 item, what did the dealer ask for one ?

The ebay link is 2 pages, go to the first one, I saw a muffler and recoil assembly in there, check it out.

Ya, good call... Hadn't even thought about ebay! Looks like I can get everything I need for about $280, only thing I didn't see was a top cover, which I will have to find...

Ebay is about half the price of the local dealer...

The worst thing was the piston:

Ebay, OEM, 288XP Piston, $29.99
Dealer, OEM, 288XP Piston, $246,79!!!!

Going to plan on getting what I need off of Ebay then... Anyone have any plastic components?

Thanks! Bryce

Watch for oem and aftermarket parts, I saw that when I was sourcing parts for my MS390 re-furbish, but found all the oem parts I needed. Dealer was competitive, I had him order the engine housing for this little project, price was comparable, but the important thing was that the part was correct and fit properly. I like working on saws, and it was fun to look for parts. I've got 3 more on the bench to work on, much older (2) 08s stihl and an 015L, and I see parts for those. Heck, I just get a kick out of doing a parts search and seeing what comes up no matter what it is ! This is what happens as you age, it does not take much to amuse you the older you get, well not as much as when you were younger LOL !

Billy,
I forget where you are located in NY...I think near Cobleskill...but I may be wrong.
Any interest in doing a little work on an older Husky *261)...it is our backup, backup saw....but you never know when you need it...runs ok...re-starts are tough...just could use a good tuneup I think...I just don't have the time to mess with small engines.
tough to find a good small-engine guy...we take our 562xp to Sacandaga Power but they are a hike in the wrong direction...

Hi Steve, I'm just east of Troy actually, but would indulge in working on one of those, I enjoy the work actually, being they are small LOL. My neighbor, (now his partner who bought him out as he retired, just works a few days there now) sells Husqvarna, repairs same and any others, 40+ years, they are close by and is a great resource if you run into a problem. I say that because I am no expert but have worked on small engines since I was a kid. I might be a little too far to the east though. Sounds typical, they sit and usually something fuel related, and of course you never know what you may find.

The other 3 I have on the bench are in the same shape, run but need the carbs cleaned, checked over for related problems.
