I was watching some old farming vids on you tube and saw one. I wish I new how to post it but I don't. It appears to use compressed air to shoot a bale into a loft.

Wow! That as the neatest ag video I've seen in 2014, and less than 2 weeks to go in the year. Neat stuff!

So. The weed whacking brush mower I bought for $300 a few years ago is that old, mine looks just like that one. Wow. Think mine has original blades on it from the wear on them.....

How corn has changed, obviously this was in a dry area, but even so was that 15,000 plant population or even less? Dad planted 19,000 for a long time, I'm up to 32,000, some neighbors are pushing 40,000. That sure looks sparsely planted!

What brand of picker was that? Holy moly.

Is that fertilizer rig an early version of strip till? Looked like he was dropping fertilizer in a band with a front mount cultivator before planting?

I was 5 last time silage was made here, we built the barge box twice that high, but kinda did it the same way. Got together with 3-4 neighbors and went from farm to farm doing silage. The unloader shaft went through a 3 speed tranny on a cart. He sure made a mess unloading, musta had to fork about half of the load back in by hand the way he went!

It could have been compressed air or hydraulic. If hydraulic I would imagine the hydraulics pushed the plunger back against a large spring, then when he pulled the rope it released the plunger and sent the bale flying. Just an idea.

couple comments, how long had the corn been standing , the weeds look like they are from the next growing season and there are no leaves left on the corn stalks. some of the hay looks pretty nice. The brush hogging looks like hes going almost too fast. Bill

Sarge I don't think it would require as much air as you think. I don't think the cylinder the air was released in was the dia of whole unit. Rather more the size of the shaft you saw extending behind the bale. 2/3"? At a 100# what I see the gauge pumping up to, that kind of pressure released into an approx. 1ft dia cyl would have some violent results. Ever seen a cheetah truck tire beader working? No ill respect intended just throwing my spin out on it. Merry Christmas all!
