Oliver 1650 or MM M670 super?

New to this site, so hope am entering this correctly. For those who have had or used both, which tractor would you consider to be better for use on a 9 foot mower conditioner and square baler (small squares)?

Which ever one is in the best condition. They both would be great for the jobs, but they are about 50 years old. If they were both in new condition, I'd probably pick the Moline. On second thought, maybe the Olly: Na, I'd rather use the 656 Int.

I have to agree, and Im an MM guy. I have an M670 Super. They are a handy tractor but if you have close quarters to get around in the Oliver might be easier to maneuver unless the M670 is a narrow front. I have an M5 MM with a narrow front and it is very easy to get around with.

I have had both and I would take the Oliver if they are in similar shape. My MM friends will hate me but MMs are kind of known for leaks. I wouldn't consider the MM motors to be as reliable and they are a 4cyl instead of the Oliver 6. These older Olivers are close to bullet proof unless your run them out of oil. I have seen some that are beat to death and still work great. I never buy Farmalls because of the torque and shift issues and John Deeres are nice as a whole but not really any better than an Oliver for a lot more money. By now I have made everyone mad but I am just giving my opinions after 35 years and owning probably hundreds of tractors of every color.

I was a Moline mechanic when the 670 Supers came out. All the 5 Star and M5 bugs had been worked our. Almost no warranty claims. U302 had the least. This is from MM at the time. Those are the best looking tractors (along with a 530,630 JD) built. I might be a little biased! Almost no Olivers in my area. Although what were sold are all being used for pulling tractors! I baled a few small squares with a WD45 AC this summer. Not as much fun as I remembered. Baler was on the wrong side. When the son was done raking I changed tractors. His had a cab and air. Vic

Ive always heard that the M670 Supers were one of MMs best tractors. I have a 1966 model and love using it when I can. I miss the styling of the older tractors. All of the brands had their own unique style. Where are you from?

I would pick the Oliver, they have a better gear ratio in the 'over-under' unit that the M-M. Just my opinion, but have ran both models and I drive M-M s. clint

Never had or drove a M670, but saw an ad for one. The hp was about what I've been looking for.

I've never driven a 1650 Oliver but put lots of hours on Dads 1967 MM M-670 Super diesel that he bought new...Here I am plowing back in 1968..It was a nice tractor..

A neighbor had a 1650 diesel and he farmed 520 acres with it...I own a 1650 Oliver that I bought to save it from scrap but the engine is stuck.....Had it sold 2 years ago and the guy would never come and get it..

Gas or diesel 1650? They were among Olivers best, but the diesels were one of the hardest starting Olivers there were. A gasser,I would have trouble ever finding fault with one. Never had a 670,so can't tell you about those.

The 1650 is a good tractor. The direct injection diesels were decent cold weather starters if they are in good shape. can think of several tractors of that era that were wosre starters and several that were better. The 1650 has plenty of working weight and HP to do the job.

Never had any experience with the MM.

Best tractor mm ever built in my opinion the torque is weak on the low side of a lot them might check that. Otherwise I love them .
