I have a Yanmar YM2000 Diesel - LOVE IT!! but I can't figure out if it has a glow plug or not - it has the "glow plug" position on the switch! It runs AWESOME!!
Also, how would I find out how old it is - the number on the side says ym2000-04811

Here is a video of the tractor: http://youtu.be/2D5gmgyKoYI?list=UU7TY6oc3N-TD34WpzI3MzYg
My main concern is - WHAT YEAR IS IT? and DOES IT HAVE A GLOW PLUG? :)
If you can help .. I would appreciate it !

Thanks - gdtractor

My 2000 does not have glow plugs. It has a compression release forward from you left knee
sitting on the tractor. Hold that open and
let the engine spin momentarily and release and
it is running. With good battery it never fails.

The only 2000s I've seen have the Thermostart system. There is a small electric coil in the intake and a small reservoir that holds diesel. The glow position heats that coil and drips fuel on it to heat the incoming air.

Mine .... has that too .. !!
To spin it like that .. is it hard on the rings or wear the rings? (sorry I am not very smart on this stuff) ...
Would using a dipstick heater or magnet heater on the bottom hurt it?
What is your opinion? or would you "stick" with the release lever and spinning it .. ?

I have a 330 Yanmar with compression release and a heater in the intake. It starts good using both, compression release would be good for the engine as it gets the oil circulating before it fires up.It wouldn't be hard to put in the same type intake heater in your tractor just drill a hole and tap it for the intake heater. Not going to hurt to heat the oil either no matter how you do it.Be like the old days drain the oil out every night put it on the wood stove to heat it up in the AM and pour it back into the engine.

Spinning it with compression released is a good thing- gets the oil circulating and things lubed up before the stress of starting it. Also spins the engine much faster than under compression, so much easier to start. Have wondered why others haven't used it on their products.
