Fuel tank leak

U-Joint give out in a SIL pickup. Drive shaft hit fuel tank denting it and causing a very slow leak. It is so slow it does not drip as the gasoline is evaporation before enough leaks to form a drip; but tank is now damp and you can definitely smell the gas in the air.

Anything I can apply to the outside of tank that may stop this leak.
I am about to go outside and wipe the tank down; blow it off with compressed air to dry it and find the leaking spot.

Run it out off gas or jack it up to prevent gas from touching the hole. Then get some JB WELD and go to town and let dry for 24 hrs. It works great did it on my alum fuel tank of a semi. 2yrs and holding.

I"ve patched under the straps with multiple layers of fiberglas mat and JB weld. Held for many years now. I"ve heard of applying vacuum to a loaded tank, wiping outside dry, and applying JB weld. Maintain vacuum until hardened.

Product called Seal All. Made for petroleum products.

Napa sells a 2 part puddy kit that you can use with gas leaking. I've used it a couple times and it works great. It's been on my tractor tank for 20 years

I went to the auto parts place and asked which patch kit they sell most often. Bought that and repaired a tractor tank years ago. All is good. It was a two part expoxy the consistency of JB weld.

I'm with JD. Seal All You can buy it anywhere.
I fixed an old tank on a pickup. It was still holding when I sold the truck several years later.

I have used liquid steel where the bands rust the tank that hold the tank in place. Works good.

Like JD Seller said use Seal All
Saturate a piece of blue jean material with it and put it on.
When I was a teenager the old tank on my pick-up was covered in these patches.
Never had to fix the same spot twice.

I used to use Lava hand soap by filling hole then bondo over it after cleaning surrounding area well. Tank repair out lived the cars frame. Too bad haven't seen lava in my area in years cause it cleaned hands after tank repairs pretty good too.

JB Weld works well, esp on Aluminum. I have good results with fiberglass and resin, But that is messy. Next time I will try Seal-All.

I would remove the tank from the vehicle and clean it out and pour in Red Kote fuel tank liner in it. It's a liquid kind of like paint that you just tip the tank at different angles until the stuff completely covers the tank and pour out the excess and let dry. I've had gas tanks that had hundreds of pin hole leaks in the bottom and the Red Kote fixed it.
