I have a chance to buy a one owner 1086 IH tractor with about
5300 original hours. TA is good and AC works and it has duals
to go with it . It also has front weights . I can buy it for $5000
but I have to go get it about 300 miles away. Do y'all think it's a
good deal. What do y'all think the tractor is worth? I see on
Tractor house and places some good ones like the one I am
looking at for $10000 and up

If you click on "classic view" there is a "hauling schedule" on the left hand side. You might find someone going to or coming back from that area that could haul it for you. That seems like a good deal for an 86 series.

Well I am not an IH guy but IF it is truly a 5300 one owner tractor with a Good TA, working AC, weight and duals. All for $5000???? Then you just let me know where it is at. LOL

That is a steal!!! IF all the above is true. That is about half price of what they bring around here. Worn out JUNK ones bring $5000 here(North-East Iowa).

GO BUY IT$$$ $500 will easily get it hauled home.

I sold a two owner (my uncle then I) 1086 w/dauls with 4500 hours last spring for $16000.

Go get it.

You ever road a tractor that far? It is BORING!!!!! Might not be so bad now, with a radio, but back when I roaded a G1000 Vista home, 200 miles, it was BORING. Didn't help I was only 13.

Yep,Ive roaded several tractors and combines 50-60 miles is not like 300 miles.I think the longest was 100 miles. A 620 ,in January. But that's not much different than dragging a plow around a field all day,day in day out. You get to see a LOT of scenery at 15 mph that you would miss at 60.I would find a 'road trip' like that rather enjoyable. And you're going to have a nice heated/air conditioned cab with radio. I did not have those luxuries, just the open air and sunshine.

It is going to depend on where you are and how much to drag it home. Around here I was finding those for $5-10,000 pretty routinely when I was in the market. Very nice tractors although everyone will tell you about those "huge" problems with the backwards doors and the gear shift in the way getting in and out...both true, just not a big deal. Others will tell you that there are two kinds of TA's...those that are out and those that are about to go out. Not my experience either. That sounds like a really nice tractor for the money...good HP, dual PTO. I ended up buying it's big brother, the 1586 because it is a bit heavier and mine had dual PTO also. Check it out. If it is good mechanically and sound overall, go get it! Otherwise send me a link and I will go look at it. I could use another one.

If you road it check the front wheel bearings first. Jack the front up under the front of the bolster and wiggle the wheels. Good time to chech the tie rod end play. A tie rod dropping off at 21 MPH could make a bad day. Loose tie rods can make for a long 300 miles driving a wandering, darting tractor. Everything is probably ok but it doesn't take long to check it out. Your mileage will be about 6 MPG. My 1086 used to get somewhere around 1000 miles of roading in about a one month period every fall hauling corn to town.

That said, if you can get a reasonable rate having it trucked, truck it. You have already saved thousands on the purchase. Jim

Youd better hope that it isnt already sold...Its a 10K plus tractor in my area..In Oct I watched this 1086 sell for $9,000 in Oklahoma...Had 1000 hours on an engine rebuild..

In 2004 I drove a G-1000 Vista MM almost 300 miles home in a day and a half..It was so much fun that in 2006 I drove a 6030 JD 230 miles home in a little over a day..

You better buy it quickly. We bought one with 3500 original hours at my great uncle's auction. He bought it new. We gave way more than that for it. Then turned around and repainted it and put a new interior kit in it.

Around Aug. this year they were about $15k with 8000hrs+ on them in my area and they looked like crap, and not many around. Never considered one for purchase this time other than passing by or chat about them, 5088 weren't much more had I found a decent one. When I looked about 7 years ago they had about 4000+ hours at that price, drove a few. More than half I looked at at that time had engine work done a little past 4000 hours most likely because of lack of maintenance with the water filter etc. and a few with rearend work done beyond 6000hrs back then, around here (not making trouble, just stating a fact about the ones I looked at).
