Pasture lease/rent question?

Just for starter info, I found a CL add asking for pasture. Cow/calf pairs, that are Stated "gentile". I`ve seen plenty of "vague/NONiformitive" questions & I`m going to try Not to do that. We`ve got a `lil less than 20 acres. 10 of hayfield, that & I`m questioning IF cattle should run on It was only cut 1 time & theres perty decent growth. I Know some of the "variables" that I`ve not answered but it was a Starter question. Once again, I appreciate any & All Input! So/Central Il. for us.

I`m going to C/P the add

Beef cow/calf producer in need of pasture-land to lease for gentle cow-calf pairs. Will consider any arrangement or condition and pay cash rent on grazable acres in advance. Can repair/build fencing for the right arrangement. May also consider farm purchases. Many references available. Please call

Thank U`all for input!!!......

Nice to feed a cow for 45 cents a day. More or less. (That
mighta changed in the crazy prices of grain and now beef in
the past 48 months?)

As a land owner, its nice to charge by the head by the day;
when the grass is gone its costing them more than its worth to
over graze your land.... If you charge by the month, they leave
them there until the time runs out, no matter the condition of
the grass...

I rented out about 640 acres of pasture for about 10 years ending about 12 years ago, a while before I let my school section land lease go and had a little extra when it used to rain more often. Never had an issue. Standard practice around here is you pay by the head for singles, or by the pair. Half at the beginning of the season, half when they come out. May 15 to Oct. 15 or so. If it gets dry, they go out at a prorated rate for the remainder. Last I heard it was over $400 per pair for a season around here. When I quit I believe it was around $150. They check them and bring "supplies" like salt etc. Corn prices are down and hay prices for ok are still around $90 per ton after the crazy prices they were, so I don't know if it will change. Used to figure 30 pairs per 160 acres here when it was raining, mine would do more than that, but that was a good number for pasture health and then have leftover to clean out with haying.

Uh sorry for the flame but what is your question?

Attached is a rental rate survey from ISU that may
answer your question.

Pretty obvious to me he is looking for input on renting his land.

To the OP I will suggest that you make clipping a requirement. Without it the good grasses get eaten down to where they pretty much stop growing and the weeds and less desirable take over.
