White 2-85 Hydraulic Pump Noise/Heat

White Pwr

New User
We recently purchased a MFWD White 2-85 with a Cummins repower that is putting out about 115 HP. The over/under has been replaced with a straight shaft, so we just have 6 gears. We plan to use this tractor everyday on our TMR mixer to feed our cows, so only having the six gears is not a problem. We bought this tractor because it has a rebuilt front end, new clutch, Cummins with 1200 hours on it, and a new interior and seat. Its a pretty sweet little tractor.

We do have a little problem, so we think. We have never owned a white before-we are IH guys. The hydraulic pump seems to be making noise until we use one of the remotes. When we use a remote, the noise really quiets down. Also, the line that supplies the 3pt system gets pretty warm/hot. I have no clue when the hydraulic filter was changed-we bought it at a consignment auction. I plan to change all the filters, but really know nothing about these tractors. So far it works great on the mixer, and we really like this tractor, and are considering upgrading our IH1586 to a White 160 because we like this little guy so much.

Any help or knowledge is really appreciated.

I am pretty sure that tractor has a closed center system like the 1755-1955 does. IF your three point line is getting hot then you have a high pressure internal leak in that part of the system.

I would start with filters but would check out the three point controls too.

Does working the three point change the sound??

There is an adjustment for the draft sensitivity on the outside rear of the tractor. right side right above the lift link. (If I remember correctly LOL) That can be set wrong to where the system still is trying to lift even with the arms all the way up. I had a Oliver 1755 that would do that. If you where plowing you would have to adjust the response for the draft to work. Then when you quit doing heavy three point work you had to re-adjust it so it would quit lifting when up all the way. I actually broke the three point lift housing with it set wrong. The piston cracked the back out where the top link mounts.

Go down on the Oliver board. Those guys can tell you better. It has been 25 years since I owned that tractor.

IF I remember correctly you raise the three point all the way up. Then turn the adjustment to where it drops some from the top stop.

I just looked I do not have that IT manual anymore.

Like I said asked the Oliver guys they will remember better than me.
