What is the price difference in E85 and 10% Ethanol in your area. Here in the NW part of Mid TN it is only 10 cents different now and when gas was $ 3.50 per gallon it was only about 30 to 40 cents cheaper. Lowest 10 percent price I saw today was $ 2.39 and Ethanol was $ 2.29. Not many stations around here even carry E85.

That doesn't pay then, think the difference needs to be about 50 cents to pay off.

Around here they try to keep it there or greater.

I think a misconception is that E 85 is 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline. Check it out, E 85 is 85% ethanol, a huge difference from what we're commonly using now.

10% was down to $3.04 today in Clarksville , you are just going to have to come on up north. Not many stations around here stocking the E85 . I can,t make it work with the price difference.

t depends on the price per gallon. With E85, you'll get ABOUT 75% of the mpg's you get with straight gas. So if you get 20mpg on straight gas you'll get about 15mpg with E85.

Another way to look at it is if straight gas is $4 per gallon, E85 needs to be $3 (75% of the straight gas price) or less to be saving money using it.

So whatever the price of straight gas is if E85 is more than 75% of that price, fill up with the straight gas.

I was under that misconception so I checked it out and you sure are correct. Thank you for straightening me out!

No wonder Toyota tells me my Tundra warranty will be void if I use E85 (not that I would use anything that the US government likes anyway).

One gallon gasoline has 125000 Btu. One gallon E-85 has 90500 Btu. One ton of Barley will make 105 Proof gallon of Whiskey.

Ethanol is highly subsidized with your tax money, the cost is higher than pure gasoline, so you pay it one place or the other.

Looks like market forces are doing their job to me.

The cheaper gas gets the less E85 will be sold. If stations don't sell enough to keep stock fresh and make money at it, they will stop selling it. Boom. Market has spoken.

But that means you'll have to find something else to grouse about. The horror!

Care to cite FACTS backing up your claim? I'd suspect you'll skip that, since there are no more "subsidies"......

Funny....If US oil companies make money, people whine. If foreign oil companies make money, people complain. If farmers and ethanol companies make money, yep....people complain. I suspect many people would whine and cry if they GAVE us the gas. Bottom line, if you can make your own oil/gas cheaper and/or better, have at it. Until then keep whining while you fill your tank CHEAPER than just about any place on this earth.

HMMMM, Russia, Iran, Mexico, Venezuela and Saudi Arabia to name just a few all have cheaper gas than us. The prices of gas if you care to look are directly related to nanny state governments. The more socialist the system is the higher the price.

As far as cash subsidies are concerned they are gone but mandated ethanol blends in gas are a form of subsidy. The plants know they are going to sell X number of gallons a year.
