His post reminded me of this item in our local paper. In the 80 years ago section they gave the results of the county corn husking contest. Remember if you want to convert the pounds to bu, this all ear corn The time allowed was 80 minutes and the winner in standing corn husk 1,460.3 pounds in that time frame. It said the winner in shock corn swept all the completion away with 976.9 pounds in the same time frame! Quite a difference from today!. J.

That would be around 20 bushels of corn. 72 lbs. per bushel of earn corn. That would take a modern combine seconds/minutes. That is also why there used to be 20% or more of the population farming.

I am not a big fan of the larger farm drive but it has been happening for over 150 years. Just the size of what is common keeps growing.

It takes 70-72 pounds of ear corn to yield a bushel(56#) of shelled corn.

A bushel of ear corn weighs something like 45#? I can't remember !
