Project ideas for my old mower?

Can't seem to find a good home for this old mower. Runs great. Needs a new battery and the carb rebuilt, leaks gas into the crankcase.

Thought it might make a nice power unit to built a lot splitter.

Any cool ideas to make this into or come buy the thing from me before I let the kids run it over with the dozer!!

Maybe I'll make a boom for the tractor and hang this off the edge to mow the pond?!?!

could regear it and make a racer for lawnmower races. I have a couple old ones here with 12 hp briggs that will do 45 mph. Boys won a few trophies with them

a fella near me has JD mower with a mail box on the front he parks next to the road. I am not sure but I think it runs because I have seen it near the barn on occasion, last weeks snow it was moved away so the plow truck wouldn't hit it.

Go for the log splitter idea, the frictiondrive rubber disk "transmission" is not suitable for much more than propelling a mower on flat ground. Jim

I got a free MTD and took the deck off and use it for a four wheeler to run around on when I need to. Not very fast but it gets me there and back.

I'm contemplating on taking my old riding lawnmower and extending the frame longer in the front and putting my 50 gallon JD sprayer tank on it and call it my self propelled lawn sprayer.

Hi
Why not fix the motor, convert it into a self propelled box scrapper, paint it green advertise on craigs list or in uncle Henrys for $2000. yeah it would be useless, will never sell. But that never stopped the guy in the add Bryce found the other day, with his converted mower/ box scrapper. we could then all comment about it on here when Bryce posts the link to the add. it and the comments would then be multiple entertainment for us here to.
Then if you did, happen to sell it for $2000 , remember it was my Idea and I'll forward my address to send the $500 check to for the suggestion!!!!!!. L.O.L

That or a 350.. Either would be suitable... :)

AND you could swap the pulleys around, that makes em MUCH faster...

Between swapped pulleys and a 4cyl Vega engine, I don't see why you couldn't get 45 out of that thing? Sounds fun to me... I would be MORE than happy to test it for you.... :)

I have one just like it that I mow my yard with. Mine is a 1991 model. I just put new belts on it this year. I put an in line plastic fuel shut off valve in the fuel line to solve the leaky carburetor problem.

The win goes to Robert Major. Im going to paint it green, tack weld some steel on the back. Look for it on craigslist in a few weeks. $1999.

It was a tractor a guy gave me because it was smoking. Crankcase overfilled with oil/gas. I pulled my tree sprayer with it once or twice, but its a little too small for that.

Was hoping to find it a nice home with someone that could use it and not cut it up. I might sit on it til spring and try to sell again. If not it becomes a wood splitter or spare four wheeler.

Hi Rick
My lawyer will be contacting you shortly. He seems to think I didn't win in this deal. If you advertise it for $1999 and sell it. I don't get my $500. He seams to think the sum I get should be index linked to the selling price!.
Oh by the way he's one of those big shots from the tv ads. if he takes the case I get the money up front, and if I loose I get to keep the money. L.O.L.

Thats a shame you can't sell it, but i guess there's still to many guys out there got more money than brains, and want to compete with the other 10 guys in the street that have the Dogs wotzit , latest new mowers.
Regards Robert

When carb leaks gas in crankcase, I've installed a 12v gas solenoid. Works fine. I've also installed a solenoid valve on my Jubilee and IH C. They are cheap on ebay.

Robert, you got it! He could advertise it as a road grader. Leave the blades intact and it will also discharge all the rocks in the road that don't grade in well.

(quoted from post at 14:08:04 12/07/14) Remove the deck and put a basket or box on the hood to move tools between buildings.
That's exactly what I did. Very difficult to walk these days so this 'butt buggy' is really neat. I did paint it red to match everything else around here. Put an IH on the front and I have been ask what model it was.

Had an old ride on with a trashed transaxle.
Welded up a tow bar for it and pulled it behind a quad for mowing ditches etc.
When an old tired engine does not have to drive the wheels and pull a couple hundred lbs of butt around it has more than enough power to run the deck.

I rescued an old mower with hydrostatic drive. It is too far gone to be driven but if the hydro works as well as the engine, I will rig it up to attach gas tanks to it. Fill the tanks with nuts and bolts and let it turn. Beats trying to shake them with my old, tired arms.
