JD 7000 vs 7200 Planter

Several parts will interchange but not all. The 7200 could have a finger pickup meter or a vacuum meter. The 7000 is almost always a finger pickup meter or was also available with seed plate metering (as was the 7200, although you seldom see it in either planter). On the 7200 the row unit down pressure springs are different as are the closing wheels and spring setup. The 7200 is a much more user-friendly planter to adjust than the 7000. It also has more available seeding rates than the 7000. The 7200 would be my pick of the two but condition and price would also factor in. There are many more 7000's out there than 7200's. But don't fear a 7200 because of that. Parts will be available for both long after we are gone from this earth. Mike

You can retrofit the 7200 seed transmission to a 7000. Local dealer put together the parts in kit form. All else said I would go with the 7200 if it the budget will allow.

If you want to buy a 7000 for a parts machine for a 7200, just don't.

too much has changed. go to shoup pars and look at the differences. If you have a 7000 and buy a 7200 for parts, you are upgrading.
