Probably because they are predators and will wipe out pheasant and rabbit populations, Coyotes are another, partially eaten deer carcases are common here where the coyote population goes unchecked.

"Red Fox: Heavy section, good colours are in very good demand and
premium prices will be paid. All red foxes are in demand, particularly the
heavy/semi-heavy, better quality pelts that can be used by the trimming
trade. Flatter sections will also be in good demand at adjusted price
levels. The thin, light weight leather of the red fox makes it attractive as
a trim item, however, it also damages easily and once damaged it cannot
be used for trimming, consequently the heavily discounted price for
damaged pelts. All other foxes, such as grey fox, etc., should see similar
demand and prices levels, as last season."
Fox fur forecast

Coyotes certainly count where I hunt.....fawn eaters in addition to their main prey-----mice and rabbits. Shoot every yote we can.

We have the "Farmers Hunting Season" around here on varmints. That's the one that starts at 12:01 am. on Jan. 1st and ends 11:59 pm. on Dec 31st.

Don't you fellers in LA have one of those, too? (smile)

In all seriousness, that's a nice looking fox. Do you have any fur buyers in the area? It may not be quite prime yet, but it ought to be worth something.

(quoted from post at 04:00:33 12/05/14) don't know about fox but I averaged $2.50 on coon pelts, no it's not a misprint 2.50

And I think I got close to $35 back in the 70's to early 80's.

And that bought a lot more then.
