1. Need ID on this conversion tractor. Is it a Thieman?

2. Is its engine a Model A or Model T?

3. Was that huge honkin' headlight original to a tractor conversion kit?

I just want to use the top pic for a photo project, but would like correct ID. Thanks if you can help.

Looks an awful lot like a Thieman, model A Ford parts, and the headlight was most likely sourced from an old car or something of that nature.

The Engine is from a model A Ford because it has a distributor on top! model T used coil boxes no distributor each coil box fired from the flywheel. That is about all I can tell you. Others here will be more knowledgeable on the tractor than me!

My guess is 'A'. But what I find interesting is the Farmall Regular front/steering.'Factory'...,or home brew?

That is a Ford model A engine. The front end is off a farmall regular. Might be off that farmall in the 3rd photo.

What is the other tractor? Looks like maybe a Case or MM?

I can confirm that it is most definitely a Theiman.

Early style and has been retrofitted with a front end off a Regular.

The engine mounts mark it as a early style, later ones were welded to the frame. Early style was also high steer but the front end was welded assembly and no reduction on the steering like the Regular. One of the week links with Theiman's was the large gear on the steering as they were prone to breaking. guessing this is what happened and this tractor was retrofitted with the Regular front end. Either that or someone wanted a dual front wheel instead of the single that the tractor would have had.

Theiman's were sold in kit form usually through Ford car dealers. Dealers would many times take their old trade in's and do the conversion. Kits were also made for Chevy 4's , Dodge and Ford flathead V8's.

By the way the H in THEIMAN does nothing in the pronounciation. Say it like the hot or cold drink and man, TEA MAN.

I can go on but will cut short for now.

Hey John, we Albert Citians all pronounce it Tea man. At the threshing show maybe six or seven years ago I ran into a Thieman relative who lives in I believe Ohio. He pronounced it Theeman. Go figure. I'll still pronounce it Tea Man.

For those who don't know, The Thieman facrory was in Albert City and the family goes way back in the Albert City area. Jim

If the spelling (Thieman) is correct, Tea Man is correct. In German, when there are two adjacent vowels, the first is silent, the second is pronounced. My surname has the same issue. Think of the little Swiss girl, Heidi. Or wiener.....same rule applies. If tractor name was spelled Thieman...it would by Tie Man.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I knew the "Regular" parts as soon as I saw it.

Thought the frame looked Thieman - but wasn't sure.

And could not remember if the auctioneer had said it was a Model A or Model T.

Thanks again!

55 50 Ron,

Not from a bone yard... this tractor was on an auction we attended a couple years ago. I never caught the final price - was taking photos of other stuff, but know it brought far more than scrap value. (Hope whoever bought it, kept it rusty and got it running.)
